I have a feeling this would be a bad idea . . .

OK, normally I try and follow all radio orders I receive, like when it deals with what pistols to use, whether or not to engage submerged, etc. But this one makes me go 'hmmmmm . . . ."

On 1940/05/24, at 0801 hours, I receive a radio message that reads, in part: "All ships are now allowed to be attacked on sight, without warning. This includes unescorted neutrals and passenger ships.".

Somehow I have this feeling that, should I follow this particular order, I'll hear about it from BdU once I dock! :O:

The full message is:
'To intensify action against Britain and France, U-boats are now permitted to operate unrestrictedly in the area west of Scotland and the whole area off the French Atlantic coast, zones E and F. All ships are now allowed to be attacked on sight, without warning. This includes unescorted neutrals and passenger ships, but avoid action against American and friendly neutral ships. Outside these areas, the Prize Regulations remain in force.'

So you can attack neutrals and passenger ships as long as they're not US or friendly neutrals and only in specific areas.

I think BdU are trying to sink any neutrals heading for British and French ports. Given that the Wehrmacht are advancing through Europe and are about to get counterattacked by the British 1st Armoured Division in France, it would make sense to prevent resupply and draw the Royal Navy to the West of Scotland and ease some pressure on our ground forces. Any neutrals that are sunk can be blamed on mines anyway.

U-boat? What u-boat?...

I got that much, actually. What I was indirectly implying is that 'BdU' (i.e. SHIII) would still penalize me for sinking neutrals, no matter what 'orders' to the contrary I'd received.

Sorry; obviously my little jape fell flat. :-?

Only if they're neutral ;) Really, most of these messages are just for flavor (And I'm pretty sure also just to annoy anyone who runs around at high TC :shifty:) and have no impact on gameplay. (Unless you run at high TC :shifty:)
