Enigma Rising Tide is fun, I liked it's Alternate History storyline and it's gameplay overall, but it still focuses on the Submarine/ASW thing, also, Isn't Hotel da Volta coming out in June?

Unfortunatly I have no idea how to get my hands on some of the good old Naval Games (Fighting Steel and Jutland, For instance)

The problem was maintaining the ship on its course.
After setting orders in the command screen, you left the screen to fire the guns, then the steering would default to port.
The ship would start to turn and the gunnery would be thrown off.
Then you had to try to steer the ship from gun position.
This was one problem the company never fixed.
Not long after the games release, Software Sorcery closed up.
And the game bugs were never fixed.
Other wise, it would have been a great naval game to play.
The sound, music and graphics were superb for that time.

If memory serves, the time compression feature had problems too, at least I never got it to work right. Kind of hard to play a campaign at 1X.

Still have the CD on the shelf. The DB of all the old photos and films was one of the best features.

Found a Russian site that lists some items for Software Sorcery's Jutland, including a no-CD patch/crack and a patch (update?). Wonder whether the patch is an unofficial one developed by an enthusiast, or an official SS Jutland patch, lost in the mists of time..... and what it does- correct bugs, add content, improve graphics, mod it to run under Windows??????????
May be worth further investigation!

Russian site for software sorcery Jutland game

Can you sent me the link to that Russian site that lists some items for Software Sorcery's Jutland?

Sounds interesting.

Would like to check it out.

Julian, PM sent!

Just checked my Jutland CD and the label says "Version 1.1", so it would seem that SS released at least one official updated version. Does anybody have a later version?????

Hi, i have the cd of jutland but i have problems with the game, in dosbox i can install it and run it but there's no sound, when i exit a message say sound drivers unloaded, i try lot of things on the conf of dosbox but nothing.. with vdmsound instead i can't even run it because it say XA non compatible. I want the music of this game!!! What can i do?

GerritJ9 03-05-09 12:44 PM

You're ahead of me, at least you got it to run in Dosbox........... so far, I haven't :(

By the way, I finally translated part of that Russian website, unfortunately clicking on the links to the no-CD patch and other items merely results in a text appearing that the item does not exist- bummer! I suppose they were put up in case those items were eventually found or made by an enthusiast. So it looks like we're stuck with Version 1.1 at best. Does any Bright Spark know how to get it to run on Windows????????

If you want to run with dosbox make this...

mount c c:\

mount d (letter of cd):\ -t cdrom

then go to the cdrom make install and then in c: run jutland, the game works but no sound, please let's fix this thing together, i desperatly want the musics of this game, i want to make some mp3.

I am beginning to suspect that in order to get the sounds to work, a DOS driver is needed for the sound card/sound chip, to be installed in DOSBox. As DOS drivers are no longer being released for newer hardware, we may well be forced to obtain an old computer for which DOS drivers are still available, and install DOS, the relevant drivers and Jutland on it (or alternatively, Windows 95/98/ME plus relevant drivers).

Are you sure you just didn't properly configure the game for dosbox's sound settings? Also if the music is contained on the cd like a music cd then it may not be able to play it properly.
