Battery Charging

Hey Gang,
I was wondering if there is any way to charge the batteries without having the diesels set to a fast speed so the charge rate is reasonable?

IIRC the real boats were able to disconnect the diesels so only the batteries were charged - I suspect they probably only disconnected one or two engines to dedicate to charging so they weren't sitting still to become an easy target....

Anyway, I don't think there is a way but perhaps for a future update?

Thanks,
Larry

Basically the slower you go, the faster the batteries charge. If you stop, they charge up pretty fast.

Charging Batteries

Thanks! That seems counter intuitive to me but I guess the game designers took the charging into account so it would be realistic. The more I think about it the more I see what a great design that is....:Kaleun_Salute:

Subs controlled their speed by having engines either on or off line. At Ahead One Third, one engine was online turning the props, allowing the other three engines to be used for charging.

The four diesel engines on a fleet boat did not turn the props. Each diesel only drove an electric generator. The electric power produced by the generators could be fed to electric motors which actually turned the prop shafts. It could also be used to charge the batteries. The more diesels powering the motors, the faster the boat could go. And the more diesels being used to charge the batteries, the sooner the batteries would be charged. So the slower the boat went while charging, the quicker the charge was completed.
