Please note that the Type 93 was a good weapon for multiple ships launching at great distance against an opposing mass of ships. It had an Achilles heel and that was the really shoddy guidance system. At a medium range for it, 10,000 yards, the error envelope was three to four times the length of any ship it would be fired against. Now, when you're launching dozens of torpedoes at a fleet of ships, that doesn't matter much.

But when they adapted this torpedo to submarines with the Type 95, the effect of the long range was to encourage sub captains to launch from too great a distance to have good odds of hitting the target.

For submarines, American submariners were much better served with better guidance systems on shorter range torpedoes. This encouraged American sub skippers to get very close to fire at their targets. That worked quite well.

The Japanese long range torpedoes, as well as German U-boats' capabilities of deep diving are perfect examples of design "features" which end up hurting the effectiveness of the weapons that are supplied with them. A deep submarine is no danger and a missed torpedo shot sinks nothing.
