Disc Error

Yesterday something interesting/funny/weird happened to my computer.

It was about 6 pm. was finish with my daily doings.

Clicked on the on/off button to start the computer.

Before the logo appeared on the screen a little message appeared in the bottom of the screen

It was only there for about 1-2 sec. Use any key to stop...something with disc.

Then it shut it self down.

Waited a few second, pressed once again on the on/off button.

The Logo came a few second my desktop came up...then a message popped up on the screen.

You have to restart the computer to fix the disc error.

Ok, so I restarted the computer.

The first that came up, was not the logo, but a message.

"Scanning and repairing disc....(and then percentage in how far the progress)
The computer restarted by itself
Same message and percentage in progress.

A second restart

Then a new message
Diagnostic
This message was on the screen for about 1 minute.
Another message came up
Repair of disc estimated time more than 1 hour.

Ok so I have to wait for about an hour before I can use my computer...this was what I thought..

The computer went back to normal, the desktop(where all my icon is) came up and I could do anything.

I guess this repair of the disc error may have been done in the background(or what you call it)

This is not unusual when you have a corrupted file on the disc. No, it can't run in the background because the computer can't start until the problem is fixed.

I had a similar thing happen a few weeks ago. It went into a dark screen right after the initial flash screen with the message, "unable to boot into Windows".

That introductory splash screen flashes by so fast - the screen with the press various Function keys functions, it is impossible to read - I finally booted and pressed the correct Function key and it went into the old DOS like menu to select from, and I selected repair mode.

Luckily the computer repaired itself and fortunately the OS it repaired from was in a small D: drive location, and all of my Data was saved. I didn't need to use the recovery DVD's I made years ago.

It is running better than ever now. Yesterday I did a complete CHKDSK just for fun and everything on the HD was also fine.

Nothing like that has ever happened to me. I have no virus's, malware, etc, I checked with several different programs. So far it is back to smooth sailing.
