LSH3 2015 Installation

I damaged my working LSH3 2015 installation, which ran without flaw since about June 2017 and so I had to reinstall. I cleaned and freshly installed vanilla SH3 from steam and used SFSF to make a working copy of that. I installed the LSH3 supermod, and I got the game to run, but with the dark screen bug (game starts, music plays, but screen remains dark).

I have tried downgrading the nvidia driver to one that worked in spring.

I've also tried starting the game without any mods activated in jgsme.

No avail.

Any ideas welcome, as I'd like to continue my ongoing youtube LSH3 let's play.

Thank you for your reply. I have all mods (incl wide-screen) deactivated and still cannot get into the options menu to activate v-sync. I will try a reinstallation and applying that option before installing LSH3.

THEBERBSTER 10-21-17 04:46 AM

Hi YF
As a matter of interest I do not have V-sync activated.
[VIDEO]
Resolution=1920 x 1020
FullScreen=Yes
Synchronized=No
DynamicShadows=No
ParticleDensity=100.000000
TextureResolutionHigh=Yes

I got around the black screen problem by rolling back my driver.
382.?? drivers do not seem to be compatible with SH game versions.

I'll give the gpu driver roll back another go tonight and I'll look at main.cfg as per your post and report back.

Thank you

Unfortunately the problem persists. I have rolled back to 382.05 (the lowest version I could obtain via nvidia.com), I have also adjusted the settings to the ones you provided in both main.cfg files /home/V15/data/cfg and /lsh3/SH3/data/cfg and I have adjusted the settings in the Nvidia control center according to the forum posts you provided.

When I start SH3 in the modded directory the intro videos start playing and after they are over the screen remains dark and the music plays.

Hi YF
382.05 is the driver that is causing all your problems with your Windows 10 Creator update.
Try downloading a different driver not a 382 or 381.
I am using 378.53

Thank you very much, I will give it a try tonight

YellowFin 10-29-17 10:35 AM

So I went back to 378.92 and I can get into the game menu. The first 5 attempts at loading existing careers or missions failed (CTD) but I managed to load my playthrough career eventually. After playing for about 30 min it CTD when I was at TC 1, surfaced, shadowing a convoy. This is unusual. I usually never had CTD out of the game. My problems are usually getting the installation to run.

THEBERBSTER 10-29-17 11:24 AM

Hi YF
Make sure all of your applications are run as administrators.
If your OS is Windows 10 you need to be running in compatibility Windows 7.
When you rolled back to 378.92 did you reset your gpu settings again?
Check also that you may need to make a change on your SH3.exe in compatibility to tick the box to override high DPI scaling behaviour.

I am still having troubles: The game CTD when loading a career (at the end of the loading bar). The application is set to be ran as administrator, the compatibility mode is at Windows 7 and the GPU driver version is 378.92.

The DirectX runtime version is 12. Is that a problem?
DPI scaling behavior is set to overrun by system.

The settings under 'Adjust Desktop Size and Position' are set according to the link you provide. What are the correct settings under 'Manage 3D settings'?

Any help much appreciated

YellowFin 11-27-17 06:25 PM

I have tried other setups:

reset all Nvidia 3D settings for SH3, set compatibility mode to Win XP, uninstalled all graphics drivers, rolled back to 378.66...

Nothing works. SH3 with LSH3 v 2015 consistently crashes to desktop at the very end of the loading bar.

Is there a way to see what causes the crash? The event viewer doesn't seem to catch the SH3-exe crashes. I have a feeling it's not the graphics driver or the compatibility mode that's causing the issue.
