[REL] SH4 Randomizer

SH4 Randomizer 1.3

This program will allow you to randomly change several items in the game. You can replace the following:

The background image when the game loads.
The Captain's desk photo in the office.
The pinup and photographs inside the submarine.
The chronograph (watch) used in the sub.
The pinup and three ship identification posters in the office.
The view out the office windows.

It can also randomly rename the files in the "Gramophone" folder, so they won't play in the same order all the time. Please note the files will be renamed using random numbers only, and renaming cannot be undone. Because of the way this portion of the program works, you cannot have more than 32,767 files in the "Gramophone" folder.

This mod will also install the six folders you will need for the images. "Background Images" for the loading screen, "Desk Photos" for the desk image, "Sub Pinup and Pics" for the pinup and photographs inside the submarine, "Chronograph" for the chronograph (watch) used in the sub, "Office Posters" for the pinup and three ship identification posters in the office, and "Office Window" for view out the office windows.

To install, just extract directly into your "Ubisoft\Silent Hunter Wolves of the Pacific" folder. If for some reason you've renamed those folders, or don't use the “Ubisoft” folder, just make sure to extract to the same folder that the sh4.exe program is in. After extracting, go to where you extracted, right-click on the SH4 Randomizer.exe, and select "Create shortcut." Then drag the shortcut to either your desktop or to the "Start" button, and drop where you want. When running the program, follow the onscreen instructions to make your desired changes, then you can start the game from the program as well.

To use with my Sub Images mod, just extract it to the same location as the SH4 Randomizer program as it has the proper folder structure already in it. To use with any other mod, extract them directly into the required folder. Note that there is no limit to the number of images you can use, but the more you have, the longer the program may take to run.

This update adds the change "Chronograph" function and folder.

Sounds awesome. Automated variety is good.

This mod will also install the three folders you will need for the images.

Does that come with the images, or is that separate?

Does it automatically start the game once you run it?

This program were originally written as a .bat file. It was converted using the Bat To Exe Converter (http://www.f2ko.de/).

Would you be willing to release the .bat file?

Images are separate, and you do not have to install all three in order to use the program.

No. The old programs would, but since this one program can change multiple things, I took that out. Once you finish making your changes, just type 4 then hit Enter.

If by release you mean send you a copy, PM me your e-mail address and I'll send it.

Noticed that after I asked. The download size was a bit too small for that.

Thanks.

Well, there's a deal breaker right there. If you want my money you'll have to do better than...wait, what?

Great mod, Fred, and great start. I'm hoping that you or somebody can figure out how to add even more. But this by itself is awesome!

What more would you want? It'd be pretty easy to add other items to be changed.

Now this is a cool mod. I will have to give this a go. Specifically for random music alone!

I've updated the program to 1.1. See the first post for details.

I don't play SH5, so I wouldn't do one myself. But if someone else wants to try and adapt it, I can send them the source code.

I realize that it's been years since this was updated, but it's worth a shot to ask, right?

Years ago, I started using this program. I must have never updated it to later versions, because it didn't randomize the window, chronograph, and posters. Whatever version I did use didn't call the sh4.exe, but I believe called the gu.exe instead. I had set up my install to run the executable from this mod (renamed to gu.exe), which then called sh4.exe itself.

Now, I've been de-placed by hurricane Harvey*. Most of my stuff is in storage including my computer with all my files, and due to the fact that we had to vacate the property quickly, I have no idea where it is or when I can get to it. I've got a laptop to use, and I'm trying to rebuild a suitable SH4 install.

Short version:
Is there any way to get a version of this mod that calls gu.exe instead of sh4.exe? Either an up-to-date version or an older version?

If not, I think this will still be usable. It will just take an update to my SH4 starting procedure.

*We're alright. We only had minor losses of stuff, we have a place to stay and wonderful family and friends. Compared to a lot of people, we're actually quite lucky.

I can't find anything older than v1.3 on my computers. Perhaps aanker has an older copy?...
