Determining Sea Floor Bottom?

In SH5 as we know it isn't like SH3/4 as you can actually see your boat bottom on the sea floor, my question is what are the veterans method to determine how far away from the actual sea floor you are? Last night while chatting we Defiance I was at a depth of 117m and my depth to keel said I had 14m to bottom but I bottomed out at 118m how do I not do this again? (I just want to iterate I am not going by visuals just depth of keel)

My guessing is just give myself 20m cushion...

Thanks bud, I actaully saw this post this morning and was reading it. Maybe my Depth to Keel was off last night because I was already sitting on the bottom and it gave the reading a wrong value...

Not going to lie I got to play last night for a couple of hours late in the night and the Sea Floor Bottom thing really ruins the game for me, even with all the mods & eye candy its just something I cant get over. I am still trying to push thru but really that's a huge deal breaker for me, It will say Depth to bottom 56m then Max Dive Depth is 50m I can go to 45m and it will bottom out causing damage to Sub. It made me so mad I went back to my SH4 career, even though I want to play SH5 100% more since It looks so great

Best have a look here then

Sorry to beat a dead horse but someone here has got to find a fix... I saw a post somewhere where DarthWraith tried some things with no avail. If I knew what to look for I would try but I know i don't know nothing like that man does.

Lets join together and fix the biggest bug left in the game!

Well what was the verdict and test results?

Defiance 06-24-14 05:38 AM

Just random zero seabed level really

I noted and explained to world dev that if you get to say 6m or so and you hit the bottom (the subs bone as it called that sticks out underneath the sub) with this protrusion, sometimes you can tc and you slowly get down to the seabed, maybe something for more brainy people to look into (who knows)

Whether this is because i have changed my settings for the seabed in tdw's generic patcher i dunno (probably for a guess)

The dev that wrote about this bug/oversight i guess would know how hard if not impossible to fix without some patch from ubisoft, and we all know this game is long gone from the patching time lol

It is a shame and yep it's a pain, how the heck this problem was overlooked in what seems to be three of the sims is well beyond my comprehension, one of the most basic sub requirements would be a working seabed/depth

Maybe another way round the 'bone' is to do with the seabed itself, i have no idea, but was merely trying to establish if it's certain areas/depths of seabed

For my curious mind, if a sub can zero on some parts of the seabed with this 'bone' still coded onto the sub, why can't a workaround be sought

Food for thought as they say

That was going to be my suggestion could we raise the sea floor itself about 3m or whatever the level indicated would be. Also if this would cause a problem around all the coastlines, would it be possible to modify the visual refraction which seems existent in the game to allow for more accurate rendering.

Those are the ideas I have but I have no idea how to implement them.

I really like this idea....... Just wish I had the smarts to pull it off, hopefully someone will chime in
