TMO 2.5 question

I've been playing this mod for a while now and haven't had any problems until recently all of my American campaigns started having CTD when outside views are activated. It doesn't seem to be as bad out to sea hunting convoys or stray ships, mostly when near harbors or land. It's so bad both my Asiatic and Pacific campaigns are unplayable, coming into dock at the end of a buggy patrol is impossible.

That said I started playing the Uboat missions and those seem to be free of the CTD, however once I got to a recon objective I merrily sailed to the port only to find it filled with no less than seven destroyers making it impossible to recon. Is that normal? I remember a while back I did a recon mission and there was one maybe two destroyers at most.

TMO is my favorite mod, I don't want to give it up, and wondering if anyone might have some advice please.

Can you give a list of all of the mods that you are using, with version numbers (TMO 2.5 for example)?

The only mod I was running was TMO 2.5. Going to give Operation Monsoon a try now.

Like james_nix says, give us your mod list. The easiest way to do that is to use JSGME to generate one for you, send it to the clipboard, and then paste into your next post.

It almost sounds like you have a partially activated mod. Another thing that we'd like to know is which folder you installed Silent Hunter into? Since you have the Uboats, you have v1.5, which is the "latest", but if you're in "C:\Program Files\" with the install, which is the "default..." location, you'll have to either move the install (if it's not a Steam install), or do some fancy Steam finagling if that's what you have - which I'll go look for some posts on moving a Steam install. THEBERBSTER has links in his signature, if you see any of his posts... what happens with the "C:\Program Files\" folder is that Windows "protects" the folder from alteration, without proper Windows User Access Control authority, which most of us mere mortals do not have, so it's easier to just move the install into a folder that you create off of the "root" of the drive, such as "C:\Games\", or whatever you want...

Edit: Missed ya! don't do OM until you figure out why TMO didn't work... :salute:

I'll probably end up getting a hard copy then. Thanks for the replies!

propbeanie 03-01-18 09:39 PM

That's usually not necessary, and besides, the hard copy will want to put it in the same folder. If you do have Steam, THEBERBSTER has several links in his thread SH4 <> TUTORIALS <> HOW TO DO IT..., including these:

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...21&postcount=3
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...25&postcount=7
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...4&postcount=10
and
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...05&postcount=5
which has pictures. I like pictures...

THEBERBSTER's thread there should be required reading for ~all~ SubSim members...

Now, if you don't have Steam, but something else, let us know. Folks around here are more than willing to help you out, and they'll keep after it for weeks on end - OK, maybe just a few hours before we get bored - but still, we'll get you going with what you've got!... :yeah: :salute:

Edit: Whoops! forgot to mention JSGME, see the thread JSGME (Jonesoft Generic Mod Enabler) for words straight from the author. One thing that trips everyone one of us up at least a dozen times is "folder structure". For the "official" User's Guide see the download, but basically speaking, your mod has to have a "root" folder, and then below that, the "Data" folder (and usually a couple-three others). If you use the Windows Archive Manager, it will usually make an extra folder on you, and that's where a mod can also get mangled upon activation. 7-Zip generally doesn't have that issue... :salute:

Yes, looking through the links pointed me in the right direction, ended up reinstalling Steam outside program files. No more stuttering or crashing when near harbors. Still going to try OM! Thanks again :subsim:

Have fun, and Happy Hunting! :salute:

btw, excuse our rudeness and tardiness with this, but "Welcome to SubSim!" :subsim:
