Japanese seaplane tender Nisshin for SH4

https://i.imgur.com/nyWUbfE.jpg

In the Imperial Japanese Navy the vital scouting role was not performed by aircraft carriers, but by seaplanes aboard cruisers and seaplane tenders. IJN Nisshin was one of those seaplane tenders. Later on, when the fighting in the Solomon's presented the difficult task of supplying Guadalcanal under enemy air cover, the Nisshin performed outstandingly thanks to the combination of speed, good cargo space and fast unloading capacity.

Sharing a lot with the Chitose Class seaplane tenders already present in SH4, it seemed an obvious conversion but for some reason it had never been undertaken. Now we can have this ship in SH4.

Known bugs: none as far as I know.

To use this ship in SH4 you will need the game updated to the 1.5 version. Just enable the mod in JSGME and the ship will be added to the Japanese roster as an escort carrrier.

In SH4 Mission Editor you will be presented with three different options when you add this ship: the basic loadout (empty decks), a loadout with two midget submarines on deck (these ships could be used as sub tenders as well), or a cargo loadout with some different crates on deck (for the resupplying missions in the Solomons).

If you consider this to be good enough to use it in another mod, feel free to use it as long as it is freeware stuff and I get credited.

-Thanks to s7rikeback in Subsim forums for the tips about setting up the loadouts.
-Thanks to ZUIKAKU1944, who kindly allowed me to use his twin 140mm turrets built for Katori.

-Created with S3D, Misfit Model 3D and Paint Shop Pro 7.

Very nice, JapLance. Thank you for your work! If you don't mind then, we'll include it in FotRSU, along with proper credit!

I'd feel very honoured if I see it in a big mod, propbeanie .

My intention was finishing this seaplane tender series with the Mizuho, which is like 90% similar to Nisshin, but I'm not sure if it's worth the effort for a single ship that was sunk 6 months into the war. Main difference is the armament (instead of the 3x2 140mm, Mizuho had 3x2 127mm AA guns, 1 in front and 1 each side of the bridge), and the speed, with Mizuho being only 22 knots fast (28 for Nisshin and the Chitoses). I think I'll leave it by now. If someone is interested, let me know and I can do it quite fast, as the changes are minimum.

My next target will be reworking one of my old models, the Yubari. I've learnt a thing or two since I did it, and I think I can improve it a bit.

Paint Shop Pro 7 ? Really nice, to see that not all on this Planet use Photoshop. I work myself with Paint Shop Pro X8 / X9 / 2018 ( and gimp and Inkscape )

Cool :)
