I changed your thread title,

please make sure your thread title is asking a question or has some form of context to explain what the thread is about so other members can understand it better.

loved the video

sorry for the title, got a little bit too excited...:)
However....This video made me quite uncomfortable, if that1s the right word for it.
1 year project? I mean ok, he is ( or they were) students , probably not enough spare time but this takes 1 year ??? It's really nice, it shows You can do basically everything but it takes 1 year ??
I never would've thought it takes so much time...I just started to build a Borei class and want to do some modern sub interiors as well, but if it takes that much time, by the time I'm done Silent Hunter 7 will be out with Captain Nemo's Nautilus hunting down all the giant octopuses (octopi) in the Pacific...:D

lol. time i spent on the juliett: 1,5 years. time i spent on the echo1: 7 month; working on the whiskey- and Yankee refit since 2012...thats how it ends when you put your standards high.

So the 3d modelling is a long-time investment :-)))
Just wondering...This obviously proves commitment. But why only 3d modelling? I really don't know, is it too difficult -or is it illegal - to change other aspects of the game? Graphics , gameplay ( modern submarine systems , AI hostile submarines, whatever would make SH4 a bit more like Dangerous Waters) .
Or this never has been the goal?

BTW, jhapprich, I owe You a lot, if You come to Hungary someday, make sure You send me a message, and I'll buy You a beer ( German, of course :D)

hmm, i like Kilkenny most and thats irish, but thanks for the offer, friend! modelling is not all that can be done, see, i even did AI submarines, ai-controlled torpedo launchers, moden airplanes etc. but this will only work within the range the games allows and many things have to be done by "cheating" the game engine, e.g. when i made the guided missiles and slbms, that start vertically, i used animations. it is rather complicated and often frustrating.

Pistitom 08-07-14 12:33 PM

No problem with irish beer either :-)))
Yep, for the time being, I'll stick to models, ( I have a recurring nightmare when it comes to UV mapping...)
I can't even begin to imagine other stuff like codes, game engine, etc...but I guess we'll see where this takes me...
