TDC Question - Impact Angle

https://ibb.co/mSgvSsT

Newbe here. Thought I had a handle on the TDC but then I can't figure out why my impact angle is 180? (Refer to screen capture)

If the target is in front of me and I am directly on the target's course, wouldn't I hit directly the bow of the ship? (impact angle = 0)

Probably missing something really obvious here

Thanks

This seems to be flipped as you’ve observed. I noticed that after having posted my video about evaluating TDC solutions. 0 deg should be a bow-on (“down the throat”) shot.

Nothing is flipped. Working as intended.
Showing what angle the torpedo will hit the ship at the current solution.

In your example the AOB is 0 degrees, hence you aim to hit him astern.

Jonny-Dog

At an AOB 0 you will hit his bow. 180 will hit his stern. The impact angle dial is just the AOB of the torpedo’s course relative to the target if you want to think of it that way. As it stands now, unless I’m mistaken, if you shoot a torpedo directly into a bow-on target at 0 AOB, the impact dial will display 180. Not correct.

I deleted my message so my statement is not valid.
The indicator is however correct.

It seems not logical, but that's how it worked afaik.

Ok so derstosstrupp says the indicator is incorrect, Johnny-Dog says it IS correct. We have a tie...

This is what Oscar (dev) wrote on Discord regarding impact angle:

The impact angle is the angle of the torpedo (on impact) compared to the course of the ship (ie 0 if it is the same as the ship).
The sum of the impact angle (α), deflection angle (β), and angle on bow (γ) is 180.

You may be right. I’ll take a look on tvre.org to see.

I stand corrected! I was just looking at that very drawing. The dial reflects impact angle (α), which indeed is the complementary angle of what I was saying before. Interesting they designed it that way. But when considered in the context of the torpedo triangle it makes sense. Thanks for clearing up!
