Torpedo control position Town/Crown Colony-class?

Help,

I am looking for photographs/drawings of the torpedo control (TC) position/sight aboard the Town & Crown Colony-class cruisers. The devices were located on the upper bridge to both sides of the director control tower (DCT).

There are plenty of pictures of whatsoever instruments on bridges of RN cruisers but I couldn't find any of the TC position :hmmm:

Hi ! :Kaleun_Salute:

Are you making a new 3D model for SH3 ? :yeah:

the_frog 11-04-16 04:40 PM

... 3D model and textures of the Town class are almost done (one small item left to do) :yep:

The model represents the Southampton groups, textures cover also the Gloucester group.

I don't think it is a Fiji (Crown Colony) class, but rather a Town class. Or maybe The_Frog has also done the model of the Colony class ? :06:

The model is actually a representation of the Sheffiield in early 1942.

The Crown Colony Class resembled the Town Class but had a different, shorter hull and much revised superstructures. Nevertheless, they shared many components.

A model of the Fiji group is under consideration but my primary aim is to complete the Town class. I started working on 1st version of the model 8 years ago when my modeling skills were nil ... :yep:

I have to my knowledge all of your ships working in the sim. I thank you for your work and look forward to these cruisers. I enclose an image as tribute to your work and your modelling skills, ( and to others that caused it to be possible ) of my meager attempt of a Super Detailed Flower Class Corvette ( Not Completed R.N. and future R.C.N. Based on H.M.C.S. Sackville ) ported from SHV to SH3. Note: Parts i.e. Windscreen, Cleats, davits, other Parts belong to The_Frog and are from his ships and are not meant for upload as a mod without express permissions from him. This is for demonstrative purposes of a Non-Modder's learning curve with 3D Programs and Silent Editor.

Hello,

the (late-war version) model of the Flower corvettes that came with SH5 (and is almost same as that provided already with SH4) is pretty good but is not perfect (for example, the bridge arrangement could be improved). Anyway, it is worth to work on it. In case you feel for trying yourself with some 3D work, try to change the layout of the portholes; the original placement was different. Also, you may try to re-map the model for fitting to other materials, That would allow for much nicer texturing.

Cheers

I am committed to porthole correction ( including eyebrows on casing portholes etc. ) your PN# configuration for hull numbers. And texture improvements. So far I have in mind 1: as built 1939 RN and Canadian versions, minesweeping gear on, short forcastles, mast stepped to the main deck fore of the wheelhouse, tall aft mast with high backbone rigging. And a closed bridge. In the pic you may see I rebuilt the Mark II DC Rack to the taller version. On the Canadian versions The pom pom will be aft of the engine casing skylight, the stern will be squared off and the flagstaff on the stern. Also on Canadian versions with MS gear the DC racks are offset. 2: improved flower class corvette with lenghthened forcastles. This will represent refits/newly commissioned ( pre destroyer bridge with mast still forward MS gear removed ) these will include Arctic/Med up gunned versions with up to six 20mm AA guns. I customized the carly floats with Light crib decking and ropes, color is not changed yet, i plan to appropriately change wooden decks through the war with non skid. And earliest versions will be minus 271/ 2w1-c radar. I offset the 271 radar from the centerline. I am about to rip the walls off the bridge and replace them with handrails skirted with the splinter mats which I need to resize. Earlier versions will just show canvas covers on the handrails. And next add correct entry doors and add Windows to the wheelhouse. Real life got in the way and I stopped all work for two months but I am getting back into it this week. I modded two items in UK_guns I built a single 20mmGB out of the double and put it on the stock mount from guns.dat and the Mark IV depth charge thrower and DC barrel fall now throws the expendable arbor stand. Corvettes no two are identical so I am basing the Canadian on the Sackville as seen in photos and various RN versions in photos for the RN. For instance one detail in the screenshot where the aft carly floats were I modeled a square frame with L Beams with 55 gallon drums stowed in its own framed container and smoke emissions equipment. Based on a 1941 photo of a corvette taking on ammunition and stores. Those drums were for war alcohol used in the depth charge throwers. Sorry for the lengthy reply I will do a WIP thread later. I may have other questions in seperate threads from other modders and with permissions have mods within this mod beta tested. Right now this Corvette has waterstreams added to the hull. ( also the hull vanes from bathurst ) I have 6 corvettes and two V&W destroyers escorting Warspite and Hood and a Leander and London Class, and a bathurst filling in as a bangor. Plus a polish Grom and Barrasque, all escorting a fake Baltic polish relief force convoy in a Storm. Several MFM merchants and Laconia are in the force. Facing Bismark, Graf Spee, emden and a Z-flotilla of destroyers supported by Luftwaffe HE-111s. My mod soup includes 20km environment Shiv effects fir shiii, and its a rainy heavy sea, using FM interior2d and u-boat compilation mod. All 6 corvettes Hunt well and don't rob resources even with waterstreams. ( so far )

the_frog 11-12-16 05:58 AM

:)

Thanks for the detailed explanation.

I was not happy with the ported SH5 model of the Flower, especially not with the texturing. I tried a re-build but gave up soon. In case I find the 3D files I send them.

Cheers

I will appreciate the files immensely. As I appreciate the Flower Class. ( 6 Flowers plus 2 V&W Class Destroyers per Escort Group early war ) and the most likely Hunter encountered by U-Boats, even after the Flower Class was outmoded by Castle Class it fought on with Castles taking on the role as group leader. Halcyon being almost as important ( Bangor for RCN ) in Patrolling Home Waters and for Halcyon the critical role played from July 41 to wars end in the escort duties it shared with the corvettes in the PQ convoys. I am working on mods within mods for the Flowers to accent a campaign I am building for GWX 3.0
September 1941-May 1945 in the most forgotten part of the U-Boat war. Called Wunderland. ( I have Kirkenes up and running as a base for instance and the z-Flottlla patrolling ) an improved NDD Gnevny ( project 7 ) a Weaponized Soviet Patrol Trawler, soviet Arctic Class Merchants and Tankers, and Ice breakers. Assets allready available and just waiting for a campaign from Iceland to the Kara Sea and Port Dikson. ( eventual home of half the Northern Fleet ) have Pack ice, ice floes, to test and an attempt will be made to ice up u-boats ( date specific .dat file in commander ) I have to use whats free on the Internet for wavefront.obj and cannot always find good results.

... the model of the Fiji class and now it has reached the same state as the model of the Southampton class:

https://www.mediafire.com/folder/abcd0h26kpw8n/Liveries

Let's see if I manage to complete the two ships until 24 Dec (or 31 Dec) 2016.

@mikey117us: I didn't find the edited Flower models; seems I trashed them ... hmmm
