jsjme lwami 3.11 and win98

I tried to install lwami 3.11 with jsjme (included) to windows 98 but Jsjme responded "it expects a more recent version of window." then closes. I think I can install the font mod manually from another file, but How would I enable lwami 3.11 mod as I think it has to be enable via jsjme?

I really don't need the kilo optics mod
Thanks.

May I ask, why Windows 98?

p7p8 11-16-18 12:09 PM

Why not win 95?

because my windows 98 machine aint broke yet, the game was made for win98 , and I didn't want to mess with compatability probs. a d3d8...dll file is needed for win7-8 etc but my win98 is d9c, with spec better than minimum for game.

It appears i would just copy the files from the lwami mod folder to the right locations but there is the bat file install thing and the other compressor/decompress cuinst.exe file thing to deal with. I have tried to find a way to install the mods manually but i am a bit tired from reinstalling win 98 again-completely!

Thanks.

???

Dangerous Waters was made for Windows XP.

EDIT: OK, I see the system requirements say the earliest OS the game supports is Win98SE. However, I have no experience with this, so I will not say anymore.

You don't need JSGME for installing LwAmi 3.11

Just copy and overwrire folders and files from:

1. ...\LwAmi_3_11_Complete\Mods\LwAmi_Mod
2. ...\LwAmi_3_11_Complete\Mods\Kilo_Optics_Mod
3. ...\LwAmi_3_11_Complete\Mods\Kegetys_Fonts
4. Only one (a,b,c,d,e,f) from:
(a). ...\LwAmi_3_11_Complete\Mods\LwAmi_Mod_DW_Original _Splash
(b). ...\LwAmi_3_11_Complete\Mods\LwAmi_Mod_Splash_All_ Plattforms
(c). ...\LwAmi_3_11_Complete\Mods LwAmi_Mod_Splash_FFG
(d). ...\LwAmi_3_11_Complete\Mods\LwAmi_Mod_Splash_P3
(e). ...\LwAmi_3_11_Complete\Mods\LwAmi_Mod_Splash_Plai n
(f). ... \LwAmi_3_11_Complete\Mods\LwAmi_Mod_Splash_SSN

...into root Dangerous Waters folder (patched to 1.04)

5. Copy files:

- CMPUTIL.exe
- install.bat
- Victorious.j3d

from:

...\LwAmi_3_11_Complete\LwAmi_v3.11_Victorious_T-AGOS_Texture_Fix\LwAmi v3.11 Victorious T-AGOS Texture Fix

into:

...\Dangerous Waters\Graphics\

6. run install.bat in ...\Dangerous Waters\Graphics\

That's all!
Game should work fine with LwAmi mod :)

JSGME is usefull for quick uninstalling.

P.S. Orange is required, all rest is probably only optional

Thanks P7P8, thats what I needed. I thought jsjme was or that purpose. I have modded other games but I am not to familiar with dangerous waters. I used to play an old dos game called seawolf which has cool sonar display and sound. you would compare the disply with known readings like whales to decide if you found an enemy-sub or surface ship etc. This game seems cool too and reviews say its executed well.

thank you.

Sorry took so long

I don't mean to be rude. You guys are a good tight group which does well. I havn't been able to apply the fix yet on windows 98- I have it running on win 8 and xp. I have time to "binge" install stuff but there are other demands. I am really into learning history and having fun with the realistic games and missions no matter how "simplfied" they may appear. The games teach me a lot about history and technology.

I will get back when i apply the fix. Without your help it may have been forever or never ingetting the realistic patches applied. I am sure all the novices like me appreciate your groups help.:yep:
Thanks.

I think the issues you're facing will have a lot to do with your hardware and OS.

Back in the good old days, Dangerous Waters had a rep of being a tough program to run. :03:
It runs fine on a 32 bit OS as long as you have enough RAM to access, but even on a 32 bit OS you may hit some blue screens. On older OS versions you may be limited by a 16 bit OS which makes DW practically impossible to run. :k_confused:

Older "versions" of DW may be worth looking into. Sub Command is still available as a direct download or via Steam. The SCX mod for Sub Command (available here or at subguru.com) updates some of the 3D models and some other features. I had no problems running SC on a 32 bit Vista OS and it was also playable in 16 bit Win98.
