Gotcha, I'll have to boot her up and have a spin around the range for a bit, and see what I can do.

I miss the Hellfire, pop up from behind hill, designate target, drop back down, select HIBAL or LOBAL...I can't remember which, and then up and over she goes. :damn:

Doesn't the Black Shark have a target tracking system like the Apache?

Dowly 08-09-11 10:22 AM

BTW, Arc, any idea if it would be possible to use datalink to lob rockets from
behind a small hill for example? Or is full visual & lasing needed? :hmmm:

Arclight 08-09-11 11:13 AM

Rockets or missiles? Vikhrs, not a chance. Rockets... possibly. But it would require an arcing trajectory, and rockets tend to be useless even when flying "straight".

You can store targets easily enough, but again, the Vikhr is a beam-rider, so LOAL isn't an option. The system won't let you fire without a lock to begin with unless you override it.

To store targets, lock them up (laser on so you get a range) and push one of the type buttons on the datalink panel (top-left, right below overhead panel. 'ground target', 'air defense', 'other' or 'point of interest') then the 'send-mem' button to store.

If you then reset the targetting system (backspace), you can push the type buttons to cycle through stored targets (see the selected one flashing on ABRISS). Combine that with a wingman number or 'all' and then 'send' to share targets or points of interest over datalink.

Also, if you have it all neutral (Shkval caged - "backspaced"), you can use
'DL ingress' and select a stored target and then uncaging Shkval ("O" iirc) to have it immediatly center view on that target (make sure HMS is inactive, or it pans to what you're looking at instead, I think). Combine it with 'auto turn to target' function to quickly line up shots on stored targets. Just remember to let the laser cool after locking them up. :D

I'll try to make better use of it next time we play, just press 'send-mem' when you recieve something to accept, pops up on ABRISS.

Yeah, rockets. The DL sends range data to the targeting computer?

Arclight 08-09-11 11:37 AM

Think you would need to lock it up first. Only way I know to offset rocket reticle is by setting Shkval to gunsight mode, putting the reticle on target and then lasing. Reticle is then updated after a few seconds and displaced to account for the range.

Might be possible to get a range with Shkval before switching it to gunsight mode, dunno.

Again though, at ranges where rockets arc sufficiently they are bloody useless. You need to spam them from even the shortest ranges, trying to "snipe" by firing off pairs is too unreliable against anything but targets that can't fire back.

OBERON:"Nice signal flare!"
RAPTOR: "Yes, it's signalling that we're all going to die."

The green signal flare is the signal flare of death... :shifty:

So is every night now DCS Flight Night? :hmmm::D

Arclight 08-10-11 07:10 AM

Well Oberon just got it, so it's the current fad and I'm happy to oblige. :)

I'll try to remember to ping other possibly interested parties when we get a game on, I tend to forget things like that. :(

Oberon 08-10-11 07:44 AM

@ Hunter :har: Yes, that's pretty much the exact face I had when I realised why you were throwing flares everywhere. :haha:

Dowly 08-10-11 07:50 AM

BTW, who'd like to get DCS to work via Steam, here's how:

As you add the shortcut to steam, it looks something like this (SP mode):

Code:

Target:
"D:\Program Files (x86)\Eagle Dynamics\Ka-50\bin\x86\stable\launcher.exe"

Start in:
"D:\Program Files (x86)\Eagle Dynamics\Ka-50\bin\x86\stable\"

Change the "Start in" parameter to read:

Code:

"D:\Program Files (x86)\Eagle Dynamics\Ka-50\"
For multiplayer, do the same for the "Start in" parameter and change the "Target" parameter, so it looks like this:

Code:

"D:\Program Files (x86)\Eagle Dynamics\Ka-50\bin\x86\stable\simulator.exe" -net gui

"D:\Program Files (x86)\Eagle Dynamics\Ka-50\

:salute:

Not to worry, I don't have a great deal of free time - late Wed/Thurs are set aside specifically. Occasionally I'd have an hour or so to play with and it'd be nice to know if you're up and running without having to start the MP client first.

@Dowly - nice info, I shall try to do that (*cock it up*) tonight :)

Arclight 08-10-11 08:30 AM

Well just saying, if you happen to be on Steam for example it's easy enough.
