[̶U̶S̶ ̶N̶A̶V̶Y̶]̶ Submarine Command Course = "Perisher"

As a random guy from a foreign land, when reading articles about the US Navy, this caught my eyes.

Submarine Command Course is also known as the Perisher sounds so grim. Was wondering why's that.

Most likely due to the relatively low passing rate of 70%, combined with the fact that those applicants who wash out are, in most cases, no longer permitted to serve on submarines in any capacity.

Got any links for this info? Because as far as I knew Perisher was the Brits submarine command course and the US didn't have a name.

I too had always heard and read of the infamous RN sub commanders' training program called "The Perisher." I never knew that the USN had such a course.

The US is simply called the Naval Submarine School. It doesn't have to be fancy it just has to work.

They train officers and enlisted men and women.

My son went there and is now serving on a boomer.

Sub School is just the basics, there is a separate course for training COs.

What boat did your boy go to Merc?
