Marine biologist defends friend for posing with dead shark

We had her lie next to it for scale'

Quote:

A Bay Area marine biologist says the image he took Sunday of his colleague with a dead great white shark at a beach in Aptos, Calif., was not an indulgent photo op and was meant to show the scale of the animal.
Giancarlo Thomae and the woman in the photo were at the beach assisting UC Santa Cruz scientists identify the shark and load it in a vehicle to be taken to a university lab for further research.
Thomae took a photograph of the fellow scientist lying in the sand next to the eight-foot, nine-inch male with a mouthful of daggers and posted it to Facebook.

It seems a little ridiculous, there are lots of other possibilities to measure a fish's length.

I'm disgusted [...] This is appalling [...] Justice needs to be had.

Are you effing serious?! It's a flipping DEAD shark! Do these people really think its feelings or those of other sharks are going to be hurt? FFS! Grow a pair!

And what "justice" needs to be had? Does this person actually think that someone should suffer legal consequences for this? Am I living in the twilight zone?!

I hope Spielberg doesn't have to delete the scene in Jaws where Brody is asked to go to the bow so there's a concept of scale when Hooper photographs the shark.
