New to SUBSIM

Bought Silent Hunter Wolves of the Pacific Gold Edition when it was released back in 2007/2008. I believe I started with Windows 7 (???). Just loaded it on third computer with Windows 10. Joined SUBSIM to improve gameplay. I haven't played in a few years, and forgot how to cut down annoying aircraft that slow down movement. Checking through mods today. CHUCKGEO

You're probably thinking of Webster's Better Air Patrols, where there are fewer of them, but they are more accurate?...

You may have been using Windows Vista, but maybe even just XP. Things have changed a bit since then with Windows. Vista was the first version with User Access Control (UAC), and "protection" for certain folders, such as "Windows" and all files and folders below it, but also the "Program Files" folders. As such, if you have Silent Hunter installed in the "default..." C:\Program Files (x86)\ Ubisoft\" folder, you will run into issues with mods that will be activated, which Windows will then turn around and restore some of the original files, resulting in a partially activated mod, and a messed-up game. If you have a disk version of the game, you can just grab the Ubisoft folder, and drag it to the C:\ root, so that you have "C:\Ubisoft \Silent Hunter..."

btw, "Welcome to SubSim CHUCKGEO"! :subsim: :salute:

I can srrongly recommend Trigger Maru Overhauled 2.5 to you, as it improves almost every part of the game without any drawbacks, including japanese air forces. They are somewhat harder to kill and are more eager to kill you, but the spawning rate has been greatly decreased to give you a more realistic environment of battle/war. Same for the shipping.

Check out his awesome handy manual to see what changes have been made and for what reason.

This mod greatly improved gameplay for me, well it made the game very playworthy to say the least. Maybe it does for you too ;) :Kaleun_Salute:

I've been retired for a year now, and haven't set up games in computer for a while. Spent last 13 months time on a Post Doctorate course in Applied Geomorphology Ice Densities O14-O16 (Geology). Now have time to play old games and download mods. I even found an old computer (36 bit system) to play twenty year old X Wing/Tie Fighter. I see my second childhood on the horizon.
