688(i) on steam

Hello Sailors (I've no doubt that has been used before)

I've just downloaded 688(i) from steam. I can't get it to run.

I get the options box but when select play, I get an error message:

a graphic has failed to load. Insert your CD or re-install the game.

I've trawled a lot of forums and found little about it and what I did find hasn't helped me.

Im using Windows 10, a pair of GTX 780 TI's, I7-4770k and 16 Gig of ram

I've tried running in different compatability modes and a few other things but no luck.

Any help would be much appreciated

Welcome to SubSim acenickells.

I just bought 688(i) on Steam a couple of weeks ago. Works like a charm with Win 8.1. Wish I could help you out but I'm a computer illiterate old guy. Hopefully someone will be along to help you out.

Welcome aboard. :salute:

Hi acenickells,

I don't know if I can be of too much help here. As the error message implies the game is looking for the cd-rom game disk which it assumes you installed from. Ironic since most computers don't even have a cd-rom drive nowadays.

Check your steam folder. Maybe there is an iso image there that you can mount under windows? I think with Windows 10 you just need to click on the iso file and it will be mounted automatically.

You might also be able to "mount" the install directory of the game as a drive letter. It's been long time since I've tried anything like that but I remember it used to be possible - at least several versions of windows ago.

Best of luck - it is a fun game - and let the board know how things go.

Hopefully someone with more recent experience of getting it to work will chime in.

Thanks for the replies

I found an iso file here: https://archive.org/details/688I_Hun...lectronic_Arts

This worked for me but it looks like it is not the steam version I'm running.

I'll install some updates and see what happens:o
