Need help.

Since yesterday I get vertical colorod stripen om my screen, its not the monitor, cheked that.
When I mutter a litle with my vidcard the stripes are gone, but come back a litle later.
I am afraid my vid card is dying, what do you guys think?

Rogue pixels forming a line (a bunch of dots in a line), or full on lines? I had this recently, and ended up with a new video card and problem fixed.

Four bands with lines, but now the are with changing colors. Switching from lines to dots. :hmm:
Cartd is radeon 9800 pro.

seems like the ATI 9800 pro is going to bite the dust, what happens if you run games?
do you get weird graphics (weird colors, and other graphic glitches)

Moved the card carefully a litle to the left and the right, mes about with the the plug at the right and now its gone, don't know for how long.
Perhaps the contacts are filthy?

could be,
what about the card itself, is there a lot of dust on the card?
if so, clean it carefully with a soft brush, especially around the area of the fan.

A faulty cable or monitor may also contribute to this, so try

(1) Changing your cable

(2) Changing your monitor (or use something else as the signal source of your monitor, like a notebook)

I don't think a new display card will develop problem within a year or so

If it's an old 9800 it's probably going to be biting the dust sooner rather than later, anywho. I would start saving some money for a new card now.

Or better yet, if its an actual ATI, I think they have 5 year warranties so you might consider having it RMA'd. I sent back a 9800 Pro AIW last year and they replaced no questions asked. They didn't even care when i bought it originally.

If you want my opinion on it, sounds like a faulty or stuck pin, possibly cable, possibly the connector on the card. Make sure all the screws are firm for the VGA connector where it mounts to the board.

I would replace it though, a 9800 is even older than my X1600... (Rofl, Just remembered how the 9800 was the latest and greatest a while ago)

The funny part is, the 9800 is probably faster than your x1600! :p

Really?

I'm sorry, but that makes even less sense than my general existance

Not kidding! The x1600 was slower than an x800, and probably slower than the 9800 Pro. I believe the x1600 has an advantage in the Anti-Alaising department though, but for general frames per second, the 9800 will probably beat you.

Maybe we should find out for sure. Let me see if I can find some coorelating numbers. I'll have to do it later though. Have to head out for a bit.

Give me proof!

So far my X1600 has not failed me
