U-Boat pictures

I found these pics, I think they are rare.

Perilscope 02-19-06 02:31 PM

Wow! The first image is one of the best frontal U-Boat images ever.

Re: U-Boat pictures

Great pics mate! Thank You!

Does anyone know the story behind these two pics?

Torplexed 02-19-06 08:56 PM

Those pictures show the sad fate of the German Imperial Navy's U-118. After the surrender she should have been transferred to France, but the tow parted and she went aground off Hastings, England on April 15, 1919. Later broken up for scrap.

Many of these photos and a lot more material can be found at Uboat Archive.

And yes, those are depth bombs in that pic, being droped onto the U-569.

Nice one Oberon :O)

Looking at that 2nd photo of U118, it'd be a shocker if you lived in the houses on the beachfront. I can imagine opening the bedroom curtains, half asleep, and seeing that lying there!

But yeah, wish something like that would wash up on our beach, I'd be down there and in it like a shot!

Oberon...you jester. :-j

Yes....if that washed up on the beach you couldn't tear me away. Happily they didn't have that annoying yellow police tape back in those days.

It's blue over here, but just as annoying.

Aha! I think I like the blue better. More of a proper police colour.
