Graphics Problem

I'm playing a stock game SH4 + Uboat missions.

Everything's fine in stock game.

Added first mod GFO and it causes a problem with my "sonar view." I've tried to grab a screenshot but it won't work. All I get when I paste it into "paint" all I get is a huge black square. ??

Anyway when I activate the GFO mod, the sonar view is SO magnified that I can only view one dial at a time. Either the bearing or the ping for distance but NOT BOTH.

Has anyone had this problem? It's going to prevent me using ANY MODS.

Thanks in advance.

Hi chazi
Your game must have the latest v1.5 version
The GFO main mod also needs to have an additional mod as well that sits behind it.

... and the sonar view in GFO is slightly zoomed-in compared to the Stock version of the game. There's a recent post where I compared Stock to FotRSU to GFO, but can't find it now. By recent, I mean that I can remember it, so it has to have been within the last couple of weeks... maybe days... :timeout: :salute:

That's the one, hauangua! At least one person around here still has a memory... :har:

Now, chazsi, why we didn't mention this the other day... but if you want to do Webster's GFO, the way I'd do it is to use THEBERBSTER's THEBERBSTEES All In One Beginners Mega Mod List For SH4 221117. That is a recipe 99.9% guaranteed to function as intended... except maybe your sonar view... Now, on that, if you have a wide screen LCD monitor, the sides of the game's screen will zoom-in to fill the screen area cutting off the top and bottom of your view. What you want to do is be certain that you have your Windows' display matching the LCD monitor's "Native" resolution. That might show as "Recommended" on some versions of Windows. You also want to set the game's graphics settings to the same level. Depending on your gear, you might have to use the game's "Windowed" setting that is closest to the Native, and then set the SH4.exe file's DPI settings. You get to that with a right-click on the SH4.exe file in your game's "root" folder. Choose "Properties" with a left-click at the bottom of that context menu, then left-click on the "Compatibility" tab, and tick the box for "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings". You'll have to experiment with that. Sometimes it helps, sometimes it hinders, all dependent upon your computer's hardware. You might also consider ticking the "Run this program as an administrator" while you're in there, though it might kick-in the UAC each time you start the game...

btw, screen grabs - sometimes when you do a <PrintScreen>, you'll end up with a black screen. Use the game's <Ctrl><F11> combo, and it'll put a bitmap file in your root game folder, like "SH4Img@1018-02-03_02.32.20_248.bmp" or similar. They're sorted by date and time... :salute:

Thanks for help and suggestions

Prop - I had a catastrophic failure on my laptop so I've installed on my previous laptop and I'm troubleshooting from the start again.

But it's a Win 7 machine so it's running much better than 10 did and progress is much faster.

Thanks again for all the help. I didn't have all THEBERBSTERS_ALL_IN_ONE installed as I was trying to see which one was messing up graphics and it did it on the first mod GFO.

I'll install the set and see what I get. If it is still "unplayable" I'll post a screenie here.

Thanks again for the help.

I've tried running "windowed" and I get same effect.
I've tried with default size 1024x768. Windowed and full screen are both same effect. Just weird.
FOTRSU works fine in sonar view
TMOwTw works fine in sonar view

But with THEBERBSTERS_ALL_IN_ONE which i like... this is what I'm getting for sonar view. It's just too zoomed in to use effectively.

I have all MODS from THEBERBSTERS ALL IN ONE except for "3000yd bearing tool" and "magnified hud tool."

I also activated "Webster's new orders bar menu for v1.5" which is the version I have.

Thanks in advance.

Not needed with my mega mod already included in Max Optics.

Your sonar view there chazsi is very similar to mine (from the other thread):

shots. The left one is GFO. It is zoomed in further than the others, but all you have to do is click-and-hold the screen with your mouse and move the view. The only problem with that is that the game does not remember where you were when you come back. Same with radar, which can be very frustrating while targeting... :salute:

What is Windows driving your LCD monitor at?

chazsi 02-03-18 08:46 PM

Thanks for that propbeanie.

On my other laptop I was playing FOTRSU, which I liked very much.

I just activated that MOD on this laptop and it works fine on this machine as well. I really like it so I'm just going to stick with that for now.

Appreciate all the work you guys did on that. It's awesome.

Thanks again for all your help here. Not only great info, but you're always so FAST!!

Blessings
