SweetFx - Basic Setup For SH3 & GWX

2 Attachment(s)
Greetings from lovely, frosty Canada Eh ...

I've been working with SweetFX & several of my games lately
and am happy to say that SH3 is far & away the most dramatic
example of how much you can improve an old classics appearance.

This is all you need to get SweetFX up and running ...
http://reshade.me/sweetfx

This is all you need to get started customising SweetFX' settings ...
http://sweetfx.thelazy.net/?p=91

Here are some rather dramatic screenies that I took,
Demonstrating what can be done with a basic clean install + GWX Mod.

That being said, I'll try to make this as simple as possible ...

----------------------------------------------------------
This will provide info for what I'm getting you into.
http://reshade.me/sweetfx
----------------------------------------------------------
The zip file i am providing was created with:
ReShade 1.1.0 with SweetFX 2.0.7z
----------------------------------------------------------
I simply re-created the file SweetFX/SweetFX_settings.txt
with my own custom settings ala SweetFX
----------------------------------------------------------
Installation: Place the attached .txt file in the SweetFX folder,
Rename as: SweetFx_settings.txt ( Backup the original, silly pants )
----------------------------------------------------------

I can not make any claims other than,

I have personally installed and played:

SH3 with a clean install + GWX + ReShade 1.1.0 with SweetFX 2.0

Using my custom SweetFX_settings.txt file

And I submit myself to the court,
for punishment or execution,
On those terms,

Here are some rather dramatic screenies that I took to

demonstrate my guilt for your perusal.

do u know that sweet fx will conflict with wide screen resolution patch ?
so players must decide what they wanna use wide or sweet fx and i think that almost all players will use wide screen ...
d3d9.dll will overwrite the d3d9.dll from wide screen that's why sweet fx is not used with sh3

RE: Conflict With High Res Patch

The reason I play SH3 with SweetFX in 4:3 Resolution on my 32" LG monitor
is clearly demonstrated in the screenshots I included with my original post.
IE: It looks absolutely gorgeous.

Given a choice between beauty and utility,
I shall choose beauty every time.

Not a married man, I'm guessing (just joking :D)

Heh :-)

Good One ...

Actually given the subject , high res ( 16:9 ) vs high quality ( 4:3 ),
I feel compelled to mention that the rendering our video cards are capable
of now makes a choice like mine seem to make sense.

Every minute of gameplay in every interface of Silent Hunter III,
has me saying wow, that looks' " SO GOOD " .

And that makes me very happy with my Sweet - GTX 960 ...

Anyhoo,
I salute you !

wait until you play in 1920 x 1200 resolution with full anti aliasing! I use sweet FX in arma3 and love it, but cant use in SH3 or I loose hi-res, not worth it! But thatnks for the post and info!

Well.. that is not really the truth.. just a few weeks ago seeadler (the creator of the resolution fix, I think) made a version which is compatible with the WS fix. Have a look: http://www.marinesims.de/wbb2/thread.php?threadid=15367

With sweetfx SH3 looks really great but only in 1024x768 resolution.

I was trying to fix this, there are tools that can merge 2 dll files into one but i was not successful, every time i try to merge them i get error. HanSolo says there is a fix for that on internet, anyone know how to get it?

Cheers!

There used to be a Sweetfx version that allowed you to load a second d3d9 dll after the Sweetfx is loaded, however I've tried that version (I use it for GT Legends) and it doesn't work with SH 3, it goes to a black screen as though it's loading, but then just CTD's.

GEMFX (which also uses Sweetfx and I use for GT Legends) also allows loading of a secondary d3d9.dll, but alas again that also doesn't work for SH3.

Interesting - but I don't quite see... what's the advantage of using SweetFX / ReShade vs. using a widescreen mod AND tweaking SH3's 3D graphics quality settings (AA, Anisotropic filtering, directly in your gfx card control panel?

Here's some screenshots I took using the LSH3 built-in widescreen mod plus my custom 3D settings for SH3 that I set with the nVidia control panel:

Really we need a way to set Nvidia cards for high AA without lost the sun halo. Nothing more than 4x4 works. Looks great in WS HD but an higher AA will be better.

Regards.
