Wings Over Europe (Not the one for IL2)

Whilst hunting for a quick solution about Wings Over Europe in the sticky thread above I came over 'Wings Over Europe: Cold War Gone Hot'

Just wondered if anyone had played this and what they thought about it.

Cheers

I own "Wings over Vietnam" which is basically the same game with other flyable planes.
The graphics are okay for my standards, avionics are quite arcadish but not too bad I would say.
I never really played it, just practiced ground attack, low level bombing and such with the F-4 (btw. the F-4 Phantom is the main reason I bought WoV ).

It definitely is no match to Falcon 4 in means of avionics, (dynamic) campaign, however it has way more flyable planes and lots of mods.
I recommend you to read some of the revies on SimHQ.com to get a better picture of the game.

Does anybody know if there is a "Falklands war" mod for any of the games from the series (Strike fighters, WoV, WoE)?

It's good fun (as are all the Third Wire sims). If you can't be bothered learning every switch and dial to fly Faclon properly, but still fancy some jet action, I'd recommend it.

There's a few sims in that line up; 'Wings Over Vietnam, Wings Over Europe, First Eagles, etc etc. They all use the same flight model and graphics engine, which is not bad. Avionics are somewhat simplified, so you don't get things like the DIANE system on the A6 Intruder in WOV for example, but it's surprisingly comprehensive when it comes to the munitions you can use, with even obscure stuff like dropping LAPES pallets from C-130s possible and sideways-firing miniguns on an AC-47 Spooky in there via some payware add-ons. You can get photorealistic terrain add-ons for them too, and there is a good modding community which supports them plus a dev who actually will answer your posts on the Third Wire forums.

Although some of the graphics aren't that spectacular in places, in some areas it hasn't been bettered, check out this review I did of a couple of FSX aircraft and compare the pictures of the F-104 Stafighter in FSX compared to the one in Wings Over Europe and you'll see what I mean, the WOE F-104 looks far more realistic (about 2/3rds of the way down the article): http://www.avsim.com/pages/1107/Me262F104/Me262F104.htm

Some videos which I made that use bits from Wings over Nam, Wings Over Europe and First Eagles (amongst other things):
