SH5 Install and play question

I have now managed to install my SH5 in a dedicated directory games\SH5 and patched to 1.2. It launches without problems in my Win 7 Pro x64.

I have also downloaded and I'm ready to install the TWOS 2.1.0 mega-mod following the extensive steps and advices. But before that, just a question of curiosity: Is the game playable with the patch 1.2 ? Or should I better go directly to the TWOS install?

I have bought this game 7 yeary ago but resigned at that time to install and play it because of online trouble with it; I have now 'resolved' this. So Currently I just know nothing about gameplay but I have read reviews and posts on the forums here, and they all look rather bleak for the game, thus my question above. My first impression after launching with the 1.2 patch alone is rather good: you can move in all sub parts and the grafics are good. But I didn't go very beyond the initial tutorial mission after starting campaign. After 3 hours the game crashed (well, I was playing for too long, so I won't complain, also I didn't save).

Funny: After starting the game and seeing the black screen I was reminded immediately of all the crash-complaining posts and thought it was my turn...but then the screen got alive with "Hey Lieutenant, wake up..." :)

Thanks,

This would be the stock game unmodded.
The v1.2 is the game patched by Uplay after the initial installation.
This is essential.
The stock game is broken even with TDW's Generic Patcher added.
Missions and campaigns do not progress properly.
TWOS is the way forward with SH5.

You will see this happen when loading TWOS.
The time taken yo load the game will depend on your systems capability so you just need to be patient until it reaches the main menu.

Hi TheBerbster,
thank you to confirm what I suspected already. I now have finished all steps and running the game with TWOS 2.1.0. I must say it's a brilliant game, but I have sooooo many questions still...

Is there a sort of gameplay manual for TWOS at least explaining shortly and shematically what is new and how to use new menu items in-game? This would help a lot I think, of course I'm going through all the guide&tips which are sticked above, but still a ton of questions remain for me in order to play. Questions like what do all these wonderful new buttons and mouse icons in the map view, in the periscope view etc., where is the TAI, is it gone? etc. ... I have good experience with SH3, but this game is different in many aspects, so my knowledge of SH3 is rather useless.

I've found some Let's Play Videos that you have sticked, I'm sure I find other ones on Youtube, my only hope to see clearly :)

Hi XS
The best way to learn is to look at YouTube video's which I have on my SH5 tutorials thread.
There is also a complete tutorial on the Enigma machine.

The TAI map is always closed when the game opens.
The TAB key can be used once the TAI map is live.

Each TWOS update has a text file which shows you the changes.

@TheBrebster,
thanks to tell me the TAI is still there and how to find it!

Because this may catch a lot of new players, I suggest that you add this to the extensive TWOS guide&tips:

[- Where is the TAI map, the TAB key does nothing?
It's the hightest little icon on the left side of the screen, click it and an additional TAI icon will appear in the icon series; the TAB key will also work now.]

Greetings :)

I cannot add it as it is Vecko's mega mod.
