Who would have thunk, the personal computer is becoming obsolete :06:

Quote:

Three years ago, inventories surged as PC makers cranked out devices -- 85 million in the second quarter of 2012, 88 million in the third -- figuring that Windows 8 was going to be a big hit and juice sales. That didn't happen.

"There were a lot of [retail and distribution] customers buying additional inventory and promoting Windows 8," Loverde said. "The [negative] impact on inventory is more substantial this time, and everyone is taking a wait-and-see approach, thinking that they'll make decisions in the second half of the year."

Some of the nervousness on the part of computer makers revolves around the upgrade offer Microsoft will extend to all consumers and many businesses with existing PCs running Windows 7 or Windows 8.1. Starting July 29, Microsoft will give those customers a free upgrade to Windows 10. The deal will expire a year later, on July 29, 2016.

"It's even riskier when the market is declining," Loverde said of carrying large inventories.

And the PC business has been in decline, and will continue to contract.

IDC has held to its prediction that for 2015, global PC shipments will be down 6.2% from last year's 308 million, or to around 289 million. (That may change to an even more depressing number; Loverde said IDC had not yet adjusted the figure to account for the worse-than-expected second quarter.) In 2016, the industry will shrink by another 2%.

I do not think it is so much that they are becoming obsolete, as it is that the need to upgrade is not there like it was in the early days.

Currently running W7 and have signed up for the free upgrade to W10 so will give it a go and reinstall W7 should the need arise.

I'm upgrading. I've been an Insider since the end of January. The stock game will load in 10, but I didn't do much more than that with it. Mods shouldn't affect it in that manner.

Windows 10 Is Quietly Sharing Your WiFi Password

Quote:

In a nutshell, there’s this feature in Windows 10 which will automatically share your wifi passwords with any and all Outlook, Skype and Facebook contacts who also use Win 10. Or, were they to manually enter your password into their Win 10 device, it would by default be treated as ‘their’ network and shared with their contacts.

From 3.0 on...

Microdaft crafted each new operating system off of the old one with a few extra bells and whistles thrown in so they didn't have to write new buzz words for their ad campaign and the psycho babble you read while it's installing.:woot:
Ten will likely be more of the same.

Well I've reserved my free download (and just in time) so I'm getting 10.

fireftr18 07-28-15 09:22 PM

My wife and I both reserved our free download. She has Windows 8 and will be upgrading to 10. I'm going to see if I like it before I upgrade mine.

My understanding of the new system is that is built from the ground up. This information is however from retailers who have a vested interest in selling new machines and software. I guess only time will tell once people start running 10. If anyone has experience with it, please post.

Ground up previous versions.:yep::03::O:

I do have a copy reserved for my and milady's rigs.
We'll see how good it is. Wish me luck.
From the pre-release hype, it's touted to easily mesh with all of your devices. Not a feature that everyone needs so, they're giving everyone a taste to get them hooked on all the new media interface hardware.
They want us to buy more junk to keep up with.:-?
