Excellent work guys!

XabbaRus 11-04-09 11:46 AM

OK I will sticky this thread as there seems some interesting stuff.

Dowly are you using 3DS Max for that?

Dowly 11-04-09 12:32 PM

@Xab

Being the noob I am when it comes to 3D modelling, I decided to go with Modo as it seems to be abit more user friendly for new guys. Kinda like I learned the basics of photo/picture stuff in Paintshop Pro and then got Photoshop later on.

Dowly 11-05-09 07:32 AM

Slooowly it's starting to take shape. :hmmm:

What fun!! There's some awesome images up here :yeah:
I'll start out with a couple random dot stereograms of fractals I made many years back.

This one shouldn't be too hard to see:

This one's a bit more difficult, even for me who knows what it should look like:

more later, gotta make some jpg conversions ...

Cool! I remember these things from primary school... can still make em work in a jiffy. I remember some kids were frustrated because they couldn't see what all the other kids were seeing.

Welcome back to "Pimp My Tank". In the last episode, we showed you what Uncle Adolf from Germany had sent us. Adolf was hoping that we would do something about his Tiger as, I quote, "Taking a joyride should be fun, but I'm too embarrassed to even go to work in that! My neighbour, Hermann, is constantly making fun of my Tiger. Please help!!."

Worry not Adolf. Soon it'll be you who's laughing and taking nice Sunday drives throughout the french country side.

The first task we faced was the absolutely horrendous wheels the tank had, so we ordered custom made, solid steel wheels for you.

It's still not finished, but I can't really decide whether it's close to being finished or not.

Very cool Dowly. Are you starting the next tank sim? Dowly Studios "Tracked Armor" :hmmm: Hmmm...interesting. Think about it. This is how most gaming studios started. :03:

The problem with that would be that I've gotten used to model using the Modo's subdivide mode (it's kind of an autosmooth thingy), so the amount of polygons would propably be abit too much for a game. The tracks in the state they are now (finished) have 91 000 polygons (blocky as hell), with SubD turned on the polycount jumps to ~1.7 million and 6+ million when rendered. And that's just one track, so ~12 million polygons (rendered) for just the tank's tracks. :haha:

Holy polygons! How much time did it take to render?
