Maaselkä Isthmus: The long prepared Finnish counter-attack at Kriv begins.

In early January, Soviet forces managed to form a 5 x 5 km bulge in the Finnish lines at Kriv. The exhausted soldiers of the Finnish 8.division were unable to push the enemy back.
Moved there from the Karelian Isthmus, the 3. Brigade (dubbed "Blue Brigade") begins its attack at 0200hrs. During the day, they manage to recapture Kriv and cut the enemy's route back east.
As the temperature begins to lower towards -30C, the decision is made to halt the attack for the night and begin eliminating the enemy on the next day.
