no it didn't. I was about to reach my objective and I CTD.
I did manage to sink something, but it still crashes while sailing.

Ok, weird issue, ever since the fix I can't rig for silent running anymore. I press the button and nothing happens.:damn:OK NOW IT DOES!:damn:

OmniGundam 08-26-23 08:20 PM

Oh my god it happened again.
I was about to hit my target and presumably sink it and then CTD.:damn::damn::damn::damn::damn::damn:

Guys I still need an answer, I can't play this game until I fix this, and I REALLY want to play it.

Post back with your new mod list OmniGundam. Use JSGME, in the middle of it is "Tasks..." - click on that, then choose "Export activated mods list to -->" and choose "Clipboard". Then do <Ctrl><V> combo to paste the text into your next post. :salute:

I have no active mods installed. FoTRS is apparently in there, but its inactive. I don't know how to get it out.

propbeanie 08-27-23 08:00 PM

Did you use JSGME to remove it? Had you used MultiSH3 to create your Save folder? It might be easiest to re-install the game though... delete the game and Save folders, and re-install. We tried to make FotRSU to where it cleanly de-activates with JSGME, but we have seen similar happen, which seems to be computer and configuration dependent...

I've uninstalled and reinstalled multiple times, and its still in there. I think I used JSGME to deactivate it. Would verifying the file or something work?

propbeanie 08-27-23 08:13 PM

If you have the Steam version of the game, they do have a "Verify game files" function somewher in their menu system that will indeed fix up the game folder just fine. It overwrites the existing files, whereas a re-install, if you have not already deleted the old files, will just add any missing files back in, and does NOT overwrite things... Just remember to also empty (delete) the Save folder again also though, such as:

I used the "short-cut", but got the actual path to show there... propb is my UserName on this computer...

Ok, the I did something a bit more drastic. I tore out everything in the steamapps folder and redownloaded. I could launch the base game with no problems so I think it worked.
My saves defaulted to the user folder already.
Do you think I'll need LAA still?

propbeanie 08-27-23 08:34 PM

If doing Stock? No. However, most mods definitely benefit from using it. Now, a really big thing with a Steam game is that Steam defaults to installing the games below the Steam install, which is usually in "C:\Program Files (x86) \Steam...", and Windows does not like when you install mods in that Program Files folder. My Steam now has an option to move the game to a different Library folder, if you have a valid 2nd hard drive in your computer. If you don't, then you can either re-install Steam in a folder you make yourself, such as "C:\Games", which then puts the game library folder there, but if you have very many games, that can be a real bother... You could also try copying your SH4 folder from inside the Steam folder and then pasting it elsewhere, and then modding that copy. The game would be in "C:\Program Files (x86) \Steam \Steam Apps \common \Silent Hunter: Wolves of the Pacific" (or similar). You select that folder, the use the <Ctrl><C> keyboard combination to "Copy" the whole folder, then navigate into that "C:\Games" folder that you made before, and use <Ctrl><V> to Paste the folder in there. Navigate inside once all the files copy (which will take a while), and try starting it by double-clicking the SH4.exe file. You might have to set the "Properties" on that exe file first though...

I think its working!
As I said, my steam downloaded it to my docs folder, and everything worked fine. I'm not going to try modding this again, that's what caused this mess.
