Hi,
I was wondering if the Ubisoft development team could consider the parallell development of such expansion for the upcoming SH4. Yes,a new Destroyer Command based on Japaneese units.
It is true that after that, more addons could be requested, like an American surface ships expansion, including destroyers, cruisers, battleships and carriers, and so on with the imperial Navy, but I think that starting with that would be fine.

Best regards

It's only been suggested a million times before, so I believe the developers know about it;).

It'd be first of my list of expansion packs if I was in charge. Followed by an expansion pack that let me play as a nation other than the USA.

At least this time around we have a Destroyer Command of sorts featured with the game - the Escort Commander mode. It's an RTS interface that lets you command the escorts of a task force or convoy against human-controlled Silent Service submarines. Looking forward to screen shots of what it's like!

I hope the destroyers could be controlled like the Submarine...
that u have to use the detection devices to locate the hostile subs

Well blimey.

I hope someone finds a way to mod it into single player (assuming we can also have actual AI subs now). I would LOVE to be able to have myself a little convoying career. :hmm:

GS: Tell us a bit about the multiplayer. How many players will the game support, and are there any specific improvements planned on this front?
DD: Silent Hunter IV will support four players over the Internet and eight over a local connection. The most visible improvement will be the addition of the escorts commander player--coordinating AI-controlled destroyers that work against the other players--which will boost the challenge level and replay value immensely.

I hope as escort commander, we can direct all the ships. Merchants course and speed, and escorts, make them go out and search and attack. How will the escort commander know when his ships detect a sub player? It will be interesting to see how this ends up working.

"coordinating AI-controlled destroyers". Damn, this sucks. Multiplayer will be crap again.

Can you try to be a bit more constructive?

And I hope someone mods it so that you can take control of task forces and battle it out with other task forces.

Player-controlled Battleship task force versus player-controlled Battleship task force... It'd be awesome.

I don't see what the problem is. In fact I think that's great - they don't need to build destroyer sensor suites and controls from scratch, and you get to control multiple units with ease, something that the SHIII engine currently lacks at all. And escorts really operated in groups rather than on their own.

Personally I think this is far better for multiplayer. Commanding a single destroyer against a sub you can't even see is boring and restrictive; on the other hand, this multi-escort arrangement gives both the escort commander more to do and enjoy, AND relieves too many players from having to be destroyers, allowing to set up bigger subs vs. destroyers game quickly.

I think this is a much more elegant arrangement than Destroyer Command, personally.

Plus it feels a lot like how Fleet Command evolved into Dangerous Waters.

Once the base is laid down to control the opposing forces then all the Developers have to do is add the interface for the surface units.

Sounds promising.

Well, I think it wouldn't be a stretch to imagine that any surface unit could end up controllable. I don't know how interesting ship vs. ship would be if the damage/gunnery engine is the same as SHIII, though, since the surface combat modelling is simplified to say the least.

But I see a good step of tipping the engine towards surface applications. The next title could indeed bring us to the realm of high-quality surface combat :hmm:

Not-So-Silent Hunter I: Battleships of the Atlantic Ocean.

Looking forward to it:up:.

But yes, as has been said 10 000 times before, it'd be nice if the game was moddable enough to allow for playable ships besides from the ones you're given by the developers.
