I added an online album showing a mystery U-boat. Maybe someone from here can identify the sub sinking SS Illinois -- photos at:

Hi Tone,

have missed your post here. Well, it's indeed somewhat mysterious. I apperas to me that the images show different types. At least 2. One of them looks like an UBII the other one can be only UC II. Probably UC 20. Nice finde btw!

eBay! These are not really all that rare, it turns out. The museum was pretty well-known. I saw just recently that one photo (http://www.dreadnoughtproject.org/gallery/Zeebrugge_Museum/Scan10009) of SS Illinois sinking is in a recent David Brown story on the defeat of the U-boats in Warship 2002-2003.

I think someone helped me identify the sub doing the nasty on that ship:

Michael Lowrey in the http://uboat.net forums advises that the U-boat that sank SS Illinois was UC 21. Further googling indicates it was sunk on Mar 19, 1917 while the UC 21 was under the command of Oberleutnant zur See Reinhold Saltzwedel, a very successful commander who later died a ghastly end in UB 81 on 2 Dec, 1917.

Then my guess wasn't far of. Not bad.
