U-boats used as convoy escorts

I know the British used submarines to escort convoys, but did the German u-boats ever escort axis convoys in the Med. or the Baltic, or French coast, or anywhere?

I'd like to build a "man bites dog" mission where the purpose is to protect a convoy rather than destroy one, and I would like it to be historicaly semi to fully accurate, if possibe.

I built a mission in SH2 where my sub joined an Axis convoy and acted as an extra escort, I placed a few patrols in it's path plus aircraft attacks on both sides, it probably wasn't accurate but it was fun.
