has anyone participated in a cooperative mp session where different players manned the various stations on the same sub...
... if so, how did it turn out... what was your impression of this kinda coop play?
thx

Its great, but people need to get accustomed to playing multistation.
Its not a matter of it being complicated as a matter of deciding exactly how the different stations comunicate with each other so as not to have complete chaos aboard a unit and loose situational awareness.
Of course, players speaking the same native language are at an advantage, all things being equal.
I've played multistation on the p-3, the akula and even the frigate and once you try this multiplayer option there is no going back believe me
Edit : I'd say that on a sub 2 players will have the maximum efficiency, as on the p-3 and the mh-60. On the frigate on the other hand, 2 players is sufficient (if you use autocrew on tma) otherwise you really nead a 3 or more crew.

In a GDT game there were two players on a P-3, while I was in an MH-60. The P-3 crew did a good job. Having a guy always watch the ESM/IR Cam is very useful from what I saw.
I've also been in a MS game in Subs and FFGs and its great. Several people can make the boat very efficient.

There are a couple nasty bugs that don't rear their heads until you play multistation. If you have a sonar contact that duplicates over and over, this means you easily get some 500+ bearing lines on a contact. On the nav map.
(Counter by sonar player dropping the tracker, btw. - but the cleanup is probably your own)
The effects of a player dropping or having to leave, however, should be well known.
I'm a little late to the party here but I found multi-station to be a great LAN party. It also has helped me hook new players since they can just learn one or two stations with me dictating the tactics.

Yes i have myself and a friend called soul chaser would often do multi station and found it great fun we would swap roles so one mission he had sole command while the next i would.
I had the line thinggy that mahuja said it was a big pain think we must have had over 1000 lines that just ruined it cause even though we carryed on we were blind for part of it.

If you just got the game today you should learn the game. You shouldn't jump into multiplayer, especially multi-station mode. That requires you to know how to work one station for the whole game without autocrew on.

Most importantly he should learn how the different stations interact one with the other.
Because once you're in multiplayer-multistation there has to be a continuos flow of information between the players on the same vessel to achieve maximum proficieny.
Failure to do this and you'll have utter caos and subsequent destruction of your unit.
That is guaranteed.

I think that the manual is quite good, actually. What sims do you know of today that come with 300 pages of printed instruction? You don't see that with LOMAC, Flight Simulator, or even SH3.
EDIT: Looks like I am talking to ghosts. That last post is a month old. Humiliating.

Falcon 4: AF, some 700 pages ;)
(The sim could use some built-in training missions, for learning.)

The Falcon 4: Allied Force manual is, by my last examination, in PDF form, not printed and bound. ;)

At least here there's no difference. If I want a printed Allied Force-manual I'll have to pay extra to order it, same with DW. Got a total of twelve printed pages with DW  (And it doesn't seem to be the european version, since it didn't have any of the reported extras of those. So what version comes with the full printed manual?)

Everything that I have seen seems to indicate that the printed manual for Falcon is not available for purchase. I may be incorrect in this, as I do not follow flight sims as closely as sub sims. Of course, you could print it yourself, but who wants to waste all of that toner? You'd spend a fortune on 700 pages.
My version of DW was purchased through the old Battlefront site when it was just released. Yes, I paid $10 extra for it, but was well worth it. A PDF manual, regarless of how detailed is no substitute for the actual hard copy in your hand. Sonalysts seem to be one of the few companies that understand this in today's age of cost-cutting.
I agree with you in the case that the quick-start manual is worthless. I had the same experience with SH3, as that manual is just as worthless. Unfortunately, if the sim is no longers shipping with the manual, I do not know where to point you. My apologies.

No problem. Don't feel the need for a full printed to be honest. Only a few data pages (numbers, curves and so on) that are most useful to have at the time of playing. (I could always get the spiral-bound if I wanted, but didn't feel like ordering from across the atlantic.)
[edit]
Some on-topic: Just got the full game yesterday (been playing the demo to death, quite often my own, for a while though) and really looking forward to try some co-op multiplayer some day. Imho co-op is the best type of mp, and more games should have it.
