Drebbel

Win an Autographed SHIII Recognition Manual
or
Autographed Copy of SHIII

plus two second prizes (free avatar and custom title of your choice)

What to do:

We all know that nothing in this world is for free, well almost nothing :D So what do you have to do to get your hands on these unique and exclusive prizes ?

You have two options:

- Design a new box cover (front side only) for Silent Hunter IV.
or
- Design a new hot magazine add for Silent Hunter IV.

Now thats easy, right ? Do what you feel like. Be serious, be selling, be funny, be whatever you wanna be.

The Jury:

The Jury will consist off, hmm, we did not decide on that yet, but there will be atleast 3 members in it, of which one is a graphics designer who also knows how to sell stuff.

How to Enter:

Of course you can enter multiple designs, but you are only eligible for one prize.

One small rule is that you have to be a registered member at the RadioRoom (here) forums or the SubClub forums.

Either post your creative creations in this thread, or send them to Neal by email. Because Neal has a very tough spam killer he will confirm receiving your creation by email, you did not get a confirmation, then resend.

If you have a very original design and you want to keep that a secret then please send it to Neal by email and write in that email not to post it online unrill the contest is over.

Or send the Onkel a Private Message (http://www.subsim.com/phpBB/privmsg.php?mode=post&u=1) But please do NOT contact Neal for general questions on this contest.

All designs will be published on a special SubSim page, we will either copy them from your email or copy them from this thread. Gizzmoe and Neal are in charge of that.

The Fine Print:

The designs will stay yours, we/subsim/ubi/santa do not intend to use them without asking/getting your permission first. This is NOT an ubi contest, just the result of the last SubSim Crew Brainstorm session.
So all complaining and whining should go to Neal

The Prizes:

There are two prizes, one for the best box cover and one for the best add. Who gets which prize is decided by the all and mighty dice:

One SHIII Recognition Manual, autographed by the "complete" dev-team.

One copy of SHIII that has the manual autographed by the "complete" dev-team.

There are also two seconds prizes, an avatar of your choice for each of the categories seconds places!

When:

You will have till 13 February 2006.

Questions:

Ask them in this thread so the answers might help others as well, or contact Gizzmoe (http://www.subsim.com/phpBB/profile.php?mode=viewprofile&u=5124), since I (Drebbel) will be away from home for some time.

Thanks:

Prizes are courtesy of Florin Boitor, Executive Producer of Silent Hunter III, and the SHIII dev-team.

merry christmas everyone !

i have an idea, that might help ubi sell even more copies of shIV, when it comes out, and maybe bring alot more people into wwII
subsims. altho the formums are great, (lots of informations and ideas passed around, etc. ), there still is one thing missing.

COMPETITION !

that i think, if we had some kind of competition, and a prize to gain,
(besides bragging rights), could really stir some activity around here.

So my idea is that 3 months after the release of SHIV, and ubi
advertizes this on the box, that ubi will host a tournament,
a wolf pack tournament, composed of 3 to 4 man teams, to compete against each other in a series of battles, details to be worked out later, for a 1000.00 prize.

the team that survives all, wins all. i think alot of people here at subsim, and wpl would like that. i think this would generate alot more sales for ubi, and increase traffic around here, and at wpl.

i think of teams formed, and meeting for training, with a CO commanding the wp, and, tactical plans developed by the CO and wolfpack members, and rehearsed, just like the real military, that will help them win the battles they will have to fight. as the u-boat commanders handbook states, complete success can be achived if all the officers are trained along the same lines.

i dont know, maybe this type of idea would be better for an SHIV and a DCII.

anyway, the idea of a tournament excites me, sponsored by ubi, maybe with subsim as partners, for a monetary prize, in whatever form it would take.

what do you think ?

Drebbel

Good idea Greyrider  , good be a real success. But perhaps more suited for the "The Silent Hunter IV (Pacific Campaign) SUGGESTIONS-LIST" thread than this thread.

I don't have PhotoShop, otherwise I'd love to participate  . Took a one-year course in HS and got quite comfortable with it (know it doesn't beat year-long experience, but meh).

Looking forward to seeing those contributions, anyhow.

By the way, any chance these covers could actually be used in the retail game? Or is it just a way for you to get rid of your autographed merchandize?

The back side of the box cover might present a challenge.

"Silent Hunter IV and its perhaps beautiful graphics will draw you into the conflict of the Atlantic, the Pacific, or perhaps somewhere else, with a fantastic (I guess) soundtrack and other pretty neat stuff. Methinks. Meh.

Features:
I have no *******ing idea.

System requirements:
A strong enough computer to run the game."

Imagine running into something like that in the game store :P .

I really like the magazine add. I can really imagine coming across that one and wondering, "Woa! What is this???"

I can't say I like the simplistic cover designs, though. It looks too retro, kinda like the 80's or something. Art-deco area, which is not bad, but the feeling is off a bit.

Perhaps a more modern look would suit a cover title better... Or even WWII graphic style might be okay.

Hammar
01-25-06, 04:12 AM
Nice pic. But I agree whit Margkimov, maybe little to much disco..
But I don't think that you coul'd have done the same picture whit out the red... I'm trying to do a more "look alike 1939" picture, but it is getting so boring whit just black and white frames... ( now I feel that I am not talking about the subject any more :-j )

Soviet_Warlord
01-31-06, 11:44 PM
Well... does anyone know what American and/or Japanese subs looked like in World War II? All I have right now to work with is black and white photographs (not good since this is box art) and SHIII, which is full of German subs.

Here's some more photos of US submarines for you. Most are in black and white, but if you look hard, you'll find many color photos too.

Ok, I've made a new version of my box art, but I still haven't found the time to go through and remove the ugly pixels... but I did spend another two hours on it, mainly adding the Japanese Rising Sun :)

This project is really consuming my free time, doing stuff with Paint is annoyingly slow. Photoshop is so advanced, sometimes I can't find the basic functions
