The mods make this game so more amazing..

I instelled the traffic and air power mod last night to test out.

As i was departing from Willemshaven i was happy to see a Battleship docked there, i came aloing side her to take a photo when i heard guns. I saw all the ships in port started fireing in the air at nothing but then....

AIRCRAFT SPOTTED SIR! :ping:

The port was under attack, I maned my AA guns and went to flank speed to get away.

from what i saw all Tommies down...no ships lost..:D
(How a squaderon of Hurricanes made it al the way to Germany with ordanance will forever be unexplained but i wont complain it was still amazing)

I thought it added so much more depth.

Call me a party pooper, but that is reason enough for me NOT to use that mod.

Don't get me wrong, some mods are great and do add much to the stock game.

Wow, cool indeed. Need to add that mod, even though it is quite unrealistic to see Hurricanes raiding Wilhelmshaven, bombers would make more sense, depending on the year too.

its the traffic mod that is responsible not airpower, hurricane range is very small in airpower, only way to get them to wilhelmshaven in campaign is to script them.

If it is the traffic mod, just let Rubini know and he'll swap hurricanes for something more realistic. He's always looking for feedback on ways to improve the mod.

I kept getting attacked by an invisible airplane coming out of Brest. For 4 missions in a row, it would attack, I would get bombed, and I would return back to port with heavy damage. I tried diving, but there's not that much ocean depth. I tried the gunner, and he would say: "Airplane spotted!", and I could hear the plane, but I would never see it. I am using RUB 1.42.

I never solved the problem, I just transferred to another flotilla.

you know... i was just thinking of something like that the other day...

from the ending scenes of Das Boot... i'd luv to see that happen as i returned from a mission in the late stages of the war...

Well, it is surprising, shocking, and totally infuriating. As kaleun, I quickly had to decide between salvaging the ship and the mission, and making sure my men all got home in one piece. I decided to save my men, but it's so excruciating to think of how the Allies could get away with such cheap tactics! And four times in a row, to boot! I definitely suspect some Allied spies dockside -- that one guy who looks like he's scrubbing the sub in drydock with the radio in his bucket is my prime suspect right now. On the third mission, I had some injuries, but fortunately, I was only a few kilometers from home base, so they got to see the base doctor quickly. Since they healed in base, they were awarded the wound badges, but I couldn't actually pin the awards to the sailors.

I suspect it is Rubini's Harbour Traffic mod that's responsible, since this has happened to me (just once!) and I'm not running the Airpower mod. It was at night and it was at Wilhelmshaven, but I'm not sure what type of aircraft were attacking as I'd already crossed the bar. Made for a nice fireworks show in the distance, but I decided to play it safe and pull the plug, especially since it was my first Wolves at War patrol and I didn't want to get killed by a fluke air attack leaving port. :)

I just experienced an air raid for the first time today. I'm using the harbour traffic mod as well. I've had it installed for 7-8 patrols, but never seen an air raid before.

It is August 1944, and I'm with flotilla 7 in St. Nazaire, and I have an XXI (transfered from 11th flotilla).

I'm also using SH3 Commander, and during the startup screen where it lists events of each month, it said that USA took control (or similar) of Brest, Lorient and St. Nazaire this month. So this meant that the air raid felt very realistic. Also because as soon as I started the patrol I got the message 'Base was changed to Bergen'.

6 bombers came in and did one run. They only destroyed an anchored small merchant and damaged my armed trawler escort. Not many military ships in port though (also realistic because of the crippled German fleet at this time). One destroyer did its best, but all planes survived. (One submarine started shooting while in the sub pen, and didn't hit anything but the roof... )

About 30 minutes out they came for a second run (on me, not the port). Both times I ducked. Didn't want to challenge the odds of six bombers versus two light flaks. And both times I got ample warning from the radar detector (about 25 miles warning), thanks to Jungman's SensorPak mod fix (I think?).

Anyway, after so many months of playing SH3 I'm still getting surprised by new things that happens, thanks to a good game and good mods!

BTW, I'm not running any 'Airpower mod' as I haven't heard about that until reading it here. What does it do? Increase number of enemy aircraft?

I got reminded of how much joy I had from bombing the shipping at the St. Nazaire sub pens in the B-17: The Mighty 8th videogame. Now, not so much joy, after all. War sucks.

From what I know, Hurricanes were never fitted with drop tanks. Spitfires on the other hand, were fitted with drop tanks (around 1941).

By that time not many Hurricanes were left, and those that were, were probably in North Africa or in the Far East.

From what i understand it stops multiple(unrealistic) waves of them gives them a bit more armour and makes AA guns less effective to they arnt so easy to pluck from the sky.. and a few other things.

Hi guys,

The Harbour Traffic mod only adds one scripted air attack in some ports (that attacks with only one pass). The other attacks in ports are a SH3 random instance, not made by the mod. The Hurricane in Wilhelshaven it's because it's early war (1940) and you don't have much options about air units on SH3. I know that this is a little unrealistic way but is for fun too. If you don't like air attacks just get the harbour traffic mod for Rub which is without that air raiders.

Pappy55,

RUb 1.42 already have a special version of traffic mod without scripted air attacks.

The stand alone version of traffic mod is with scripted air attacks, ok?

Greetings,

Rubini.

For the record: I enjoyed RUb earlier, but got a bit put off by the 1 minute+ reload time of the deck gun so I disabled it (did the crew really take that long to stuff a cylinder into a tube?).

So I'm using the traffic/harbour mod stand alone, which is great! Really makes you feel that you're not fighting the war alone.

So you can extract the traffic part of the mod seperate?

Well I suppose you can, but I simply disabled it altogether. I've come to the conclusion that I prefer lots of minor mods instead of mods that changes a lot of things - especially with the brilliant mod enabler tool.

Anyway, here is the link to the harbour traffic mod:

http://www.subsim.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=41142&highlight=harbor+harbour+traffic+mod

But I'm all open for large mods that have the option of selecting what features you would like enabled. :yep:

Here is the deal... The Japs and Brits may not have yet been at war so they allowed the Japs to send pilots to England to practise kamikaze tactics (since the planes wouldn't have enough fuel to return).

Okay, that makes no sense but it could be an explaination...

Yeah I bet those kamikaze pilots reached veteran status after such training!
