View Full Version : abandon ship?

Is there an option to abandon ship? I could not find one anywhere, but there is lots of stuff that is not documented so I thought I would ask. Thanks! Joe S

To my knowledge there is not...our u-boats are truly iron coffins, once you get in you're not getting out until you dock.

No, like Carcassonne said, it is not possible to abandon our U-Boot.

Shame really. Even SHI had that feature.

We should be able to blow to the surface, and either scuttle the boat and abandon ship, or even surrender. Then a couple of images or movies showing you and your surviving crew being rescued by a destroyer, and finally behind barbed wire in a prison camp.

Would add greatly to the immersion, wouldn't it?

Not for me. I'm a captain. I go where my boat goes. :p

In the virtual world, allright!
Are you as brave in the real world too, or would you jump in the water with your life jacket on?

No there isn't, but there are references to 'Abandon ship' in the files....

I was in my type XXI in 1945 getting pounded by destroyers with DC's. I was being stupid and trying to dogfight with them instead of going deep and getting away. Well, my boat was almost sunk and I had a LOT of flooding, so I blew ballast. Instead of waiting for my boat to be destroyed, out of frustration I hit the escape key and clicked on "Exit Patrol". A screen came up asking if I was sure I wished to "Surrender the boat." Sure enough, I clicked on yes and it stated that I surrendered the boat and was captured! Was this because there were destroyers in my close proximity? Maybe because of the amount of damage I had? It is the first time I tried it...is this a new development with 1.4b? I'll try to do it again and post a pic.

Further revelations led us to discover it's for Single Missions only, not Campaign missions.

Yep, I have been offered to surrender as well. Think it was in one of the first versions

Thank you. Above are the top 4 Google Websites that spell Mondrian the way I did. That last one was from Harvard University, although I really don't know how good their art department is.

To be fair, here's the top 4 that spell Mondrian Mondriaan:

http://www.mondriaan.net/
http://www.tiscali.co.uk/reference/encyclopaedia/hutchinson/m0004892.html
http://www.the-artfile.com/nl/artiesten/mondriaan/mondriaan.htm
http://mediatheek.thinkquest.nl/~klb040/kunst/kunstenaar_bekijken.php?kunstenaar_id=43

Those last two are in Dutch, I think. I don't know any Dutch, so I use the Anglo'd version of his name, I guess. Not that it matters, as I have undertook to create this box-work masterpiece, and he isn't even showing up to give me my props.

Would add greatly to the immersion, wouldn't it?

Not for me. I'm a captain. I go where my boat goes. :p

If you sink with the boat, you get the greatest immersion of all.

A POW captain is more trouble to the enemy than a dead captain. :yep:

Mwahahahaha how long can this post go on for with out being deleted? :rotfl: :rotfl:

Not if during a POW camp break and there is a anti-aircraft or big gun and the wind is blowing at 7 meters per second . Nobody is gonna listen to you or follow your orders :rotfl: ... sorry ... just being scarcastic :-?

This box-in-box stuff is starting to look like Modern art -- where's Piet Mondrian when you need him?

yet in development
If this madness continues I'll need reading glasses to find Osten's original posting!

Thank you. Above are the top 4 Google Websites that spell Mondrian the way I did. That last one was from Harvard University, although I really don't know how good their art department is.

To be fair, here's the top 4 that spell Mondrian Mondriaan:

http://www.the-artfile.com/nl/artiesten/mondriaan/mondriaan.htm
http://mediatheek.thinkquest.nl/~klb040/kunst/kunstenaar_bekijken.php?kunstenaar_id=43

Those last two are in Dutch, I think. I don't know any Dutch, so I use the Anglo'd version of his name, I guess. Not that it matters, as I have undertook to create this box-work masterpiece, and he isn't even showing up to give me my props.[/quote:7428d80c70]

@ Twelvefield: It's Pieter Mondriaan, please!

http://www.ibiblio.org/wm/paint/auth/mondrian/
http://www.artcyclopedia.com/artists/mondrian_piet.html
http://www.artmuseums.harvard.edu/mondrian/

Thank you. Above are the top 4 Google Websites that spell Mondrian the way I did. That last one was from Harvard University, although I really don't know how good their art department is.

To be fair, here's the top 4 that spell Mondrian Mondriaan:

http://www.mondriaan.net/
http://www.tiscali.co.uk/reference/encyclopaedia/hutchinson/m0004892.html
http://www.the-artfile.com/nl/artiesten/mondriaan/mondriaan.htm
http://mediatheek.thinkquest.nl/~klb040/kunst/kunstenaar_bekijken.php?kunstenaar_id=43

Those last two are in Dutch, I think. I don't know any Dutch, so I use the Anglo'd version of his name, I guess. Not that it matters, as I have undertook to create this box-work masterpiece, and he isn't even showing up to give me my props.[/quote:503cef4095]

Only if you come up with a real posting, jimmie. You have to make a statement, even if it's just a line or a point. No statement, no posting!
And no double postings; that's not cricket![/quote:503cef4095]

I wonder if there's a limit to how far this could go?

Maybe we'll suddenly run afoul of some sort of system limit, and start crashing every computer that views the page. lol[/quote:503cef4095]
We'll find out in a day or two!

OK, I hate double postings, but I have a question for ReM: Why did you go back in time four steps?[/quote:503cef4095]

You can delete all postings as a moderator. So can I conclude you call this is beauty, not art...?

Thank you. Above are the top 4 Google Websites that spell Mondrian the way I did. That last one was from Harvard University, although I really don't know how good their art department is.

To be fair, here's the top 4 that spell Mondrian Mondriaan:

http://www.mondriaan.net/
http://www.tiscali.co.uk/reference/encyclopaedia/hutchinson/m0004892.html
http://www.the-artfile.com/nl/artiesten/mondriaan/mondriaan.htm
http://mediatheek.thinkquest.nl/~klb040/kunst/kunstenaar_bekijken.php?kunstenaar_id=43

Those last two are in Dutch, I think. I don't know any Dutch, so I use the Anglo'd version of his name, I guess. Not that it matters, as I have undertook to create this box-work masterpiece, and he isn't even showing up to give me my props.[/quote:c4fa6247ea]

Only if you come up with a real posting, jimmie. You have to make a statement, even if it's just a line or a point. No statement, no posting!
And no double postings; that's not cricket![/quote:c4fa6247ea]

I wonder if there's a limit to how far this could go?

Maybe we'll suddenly run afoul of some sort of system limit, and start crashing every computer that views the page. lol[/quote:c4fa6247ea]
We'll find out in a day or two!

OK, I hate double postings, but I have a question for ReM: Why did you go back in time four steps?[/quote:c4fa6247ea]
Art has to be forgotten, beauty must be realized[/quote:c4fa6247ea]

Only if you come up with a real posting, jimmie. You have to make a statement, even if it's just a line or a point. No statement, no posting!
And no double postings; that's not cricket![/quote:56d344c947]

I wonder if there's a limit to how far this could go?

Maybe we'll suddenly run afoul of some sort of system limit, and start crashing every computer that views the page. lol[/quote:56d344c947]
We'll find out in a day or two!
:D[/quote:56d344c947]
OK, I hate double postings, but I have a question for ReM: Why did you go back in time four steps?[/quote:56d344c947]
Art has to be forgotten, beauty must be realized[/quote:56d344c947]
You can delete all postings as a moderator. So can I conclude you call this is beauty, not art...?
:D[/quote:56d344c947]

ok so i cant read the original post without a magnifying glass anymore....[/quote:56d344c947]

"Posting" does not necessarily have to be a comment of words.
The lines I drew were meant this to be some composition. Modern art, eh?[/quote:56d344c947]

I have no idea whats going on. and it makes my eyes tired.[/quote:56d344c947][/quote:56d344c947]
What is your statement, Maximus3070?
Or are you posting just for fun?
:-?[/quote:56d344c947]

Uhh... humm... :dead: what was the original question again ?[/quote:56d344c947]
Holy Cow, where'd you guys find the jimson weed?[/quote:56d344c947]
This is useless, we're loosing posts as fast as we're getting new ones...
We already lost Oesten, Duncan Idaho and Twelvefield. And now even Drebbel!
Lets get back to topic and abandon ship!
:D[/quote:56d344c947]

I am not lost at all :88)[/quote:56d344c947]
Looks like nobody wants to abandon this post........if we keep going on we might even make it to the Guiness Book Of Records.... ;)[/quote:56d344c947]

could someone tell me what is going on here[/quote:56d344c947]

Why do't you just start reading? We have gone through a lot of trouble to quote everything for your convenience ! :D[/quote:56d344c947]

Yes, it shouldn't take you long to figure it out.

When you do, do you think you could tell me as well?[/quote:56d344c947]

This post is its own Black Hole. There's so much information in it that it's achieved critical mass and it has imploded on itself. Try it yourself: allow your written thoughts to reach the outer accretion disc, and in a few days, your message should get sucked into the centre and disappear in a singularity! Awesome!!

Would add greatly to the immersion, wouldn't it?

Not for me. I'm a captain. I go where my boat goes. :p

If you sink with the boat, you get the greatest immersion of all.  Mummy!!! lol :rotfl: :rotfl:

A POW captain is more trouble to the enemy than a dead captain. :yep:

Mwahahahaha how long can this post go on for with out being deleted? :rotfl: :rotfl:

Not if during a POW camp break and there is a anti-aircraft or big gun and the wind is blowing at 7 meters per second . Nobody is gonna listen to you or follow your orders :rotfl: ... sorry ... just being scarcastic :-?

This box-in-box stuff is starting to look like Modern art -- where's Piet Mondrian when you need him?

yet in development
If this madness continues I'll need reading glasses to find Osten's original posting!

well tough luck pal. :rotfl:

and FYI, im a teenager! i am 13 years, 6 months and 21 days old, so respect my age properlly Sea Slug! lol jk.
@ Twelvefield: It's Pieter Mondriaan, please!

http://www.ibiblio.org/wm/paint/auth/mondrian/
http://www.artcyclopedia.com/artists/mondrian_piet.html
http://www.artmuseums.harvard.edu/mondrian/

Thank you. Above are the top 4 Google Websites that spell Mondrian the way I did. That last one was from Harvard University, although I really don't know how good their art department is.

To be fair, here's the top 4 that spell Mondrian Mondriaan:

http://www.mondriaan.net/
http://www.tiscali.co.uk/reference/encyclopaedia/hutchinson/m0004892.html
http://www.the-artfile.com/nl/artiesten/mondriaan/mondriaan.htm
http://mediatheek.thinkquest.nl/~klb040/kunst/kunstenaar_bekijken.php?kunstenaar_id=43

Those last two are in Dutch, I think. I don't know any Dutch, so I use the Anglo'd version of his name, I guess. Not that it matters, as I have undertook to create this box-work masterpiece, and he isn't even showing up to give me my props.[/quote:8018309662]
