What Naval Enigma Simulator are you using to decypher the messages BdU is sending you ? ;)

I am using this one:
http://www.hut-six.co.uk/m3/

Just fired it up again after not using it for ages. Works like a charm.

But I am wondering if there is one that simulates the 4 rotor system as well.

Ok, M3 means 3 rotors, but wich applet/programm/tool are you using ?

I use the "M3 Enigma Simulator" version 1.01 by Geoff Sullivan.

This is interesting. Does SH3 generate code from BdU wich reqires the machine (Enigma) that Drebbel posted.

Is this why I receive so few messages?

Nope, but there are some enigma messages hidden in the game. And some people use mods that send enigma messages over the radio.

Thank you for your reply Drebbel,

But I'm not sure I understand. When you say, enigma messages hidden in the game, are we talking about some kind of 'Bible Code' thing that only the chosen can ever hope to comprehend?

And if so, are the MODs also riddled with the code which will, given the proper de-code, give us the secrets to life the universe and everyting (42)?

Nope, no chosen needed, just some funny stuff hidden in the game. Just like the bottles of becks beer and the U2 (music band) logo.

And if so, are the MODs also riddled with the code which will, given the proper de-code, give us the secrets to life the universe and everyting (42)?

I wouldn't now how much enigma is in the mod. I don't use any mods. But I am sure you will get tons of answers if you ask that Q in the Mod Workshop Forum.

I mainly fired my enigma up again because someone had posted a riddle (using enigma code) in the General forum.

Thank you Drebbel,

I was hoping to get a chuckle out of you with the reference to Douglas Adam's Hitch Hiker's Gude to the Galaxy.

You should check it out when you are on your non-TC patrols.

Thanx again

Gentlemen, try this enigma: http://users.telenet.be/d.rijmenants/

This allows you to open the machine to change wheels manually - it deservedly won a programming award.

I'd found this one:

but it seems to be not working for the moment (?)
Maybe it'll be back up in working order soon.

Perfect, I love this one, best I have seen !

Changing the rotors by hand is a great feature

Now how about including a "clickable spot" or key in SHIII to start this thing. Can that be done ?

Neat. I was in Bletchly Park last weekend and bought myself the same Enigma kit. How did you go about making the wood box?

Hi Drebbel,

your hot key idea to launch the enigma was a good idea, so I played about a bit this morning. Downloaded a free macro program which enables you to write scripts. Now if I press Ctrl + / whilst playing SH3 the enigma program launches. Of course it minimises SH3, so you have to Alt+Tab between the two programs as required.

Only drawback on my pc is that the map graphics in the control room are messed up, so I use powerstrip to restore them - minor hitch, though.

If you want more details I'll get back to you later, but I'm off to play cricket now.

Using an Enigma sounds like a funny/cool idea - but - don't you need to have the correct daily code/key setting used to encrypt the message to be able to decypher it? (unless you're using the kind of "bombe" they used at Blechley Park, of course) How do you get the proper daily code settings to use these sorts of simulators (or do they just disregard this aspect and all work off the same key settings to avoid this issue for gaming)?

Drebbel

Nope, you need the proper key setting. All simulators referred to in this thread have the option to adjust those.

I used oak wood to make the box according to the specifications given in the instructions. For more info and pictures, see here. (http://www.xat.nl/enigma-e/support/cases/0006/index.htm)

OK, I'll bite - so how do you get the proper key settings to use with any in-game encoded messages, without having copies of all the relevant code books (you know, the ones you're supposed to put in the weighted bags and throw overboard before you abandon ship)? Does the paper copy of the recognition manual come with a code book of key settings too or something? Or was there more included with Patch 1.4b than I remember seeing in the readme file?

Maybe slightly OT since we are not talking simulators anymore.
On ebay there is currently a three wheel enigma machine for sale, said to be original and with three original rotors.
Current bid is just over 20 000 GBP, if anyone is interested.

Probably beats some corny simulator program, right folks :D

Sorry...2 000 GBP is the price.

Guys.

Hey check this site:
www.tietomato.com or www.tietomato.fi.com
This guy has created the best computer Enigma M4 Simulator I've seen. I use this one after testing several.

It has got a lot of nice features.

Ok. Guys. Here is the Enigma M4 simulator I mentioned before.
At the moment the creator of this beauty is improving it but I still have version 1.0.1.3
Downloadit from: http://rapidshare.de/files/3410833/enigmam4.zip.html
Nice graphics, nice modern features: cut and paste, a virtual clerk to do the typing for you, guided Enigma session so you start using it right away, menus and help in 3 different languages to choose from, etc.
Free upgrades 4 ever and you can use all rotors when registered. For 10 Euros I found it low cost for a very good software.
What I really like is that even with the modern features it keeps the real Enigma spirit intact.
Like the real 4 rotor Enigma (Shark), if you use the Beta reflector and the Beta rotor in ringsetting both at letter A then this becomes compatible with the Wermacht and Luftwaffe 3 rotor Enigmas... like it was in real life.
Try the program. It's worth it. Enjoy :yep:

Thanks, but are you sure this is legit ? After re-visiting the http://www.tietomato.fi/com/ website I read:

Download a free evaluation version. License key for full access can be ordered via Enigma M4 program itself. The price of license is 10 €.

Or is this download just the free evaluation version ?

- - - - -

My worries where unfounded. It is just the evaluation version

Yes Drebbel.
This is the unregistered evaluation version that was available for download.

Nice from you to point that out so it is now clear with no doubts.

Any idea when the new version will be available ?

Can't imagine it can even look better than this older version :-)
