Just awesome! :o
A dream come true...I'm quite speechless, so before I write more silly comments I'll read through all the excellent info given here.
Edit:
The Link to the Diary of a U-Boat Commander on your Imperial U-Flotilla 1914-1918 homepage doesn't work,
maybe you should use this link (http://www.blackmask.com/books120c/7dubcdex.htm) instead ?

Thanks to point me at it. I already updated the link. They seem to have removed the online version of it. But in that link is the version with drawings.

Just looking at the feature list is wonderful! So many great ideas!
If all of them are realized I couldn't wish for more! (...well not at the moment... ; - )
The screenshots of the 3d models let me sit here with my mouth wide open, the ash of my cigarette falling onto my keyboard - just beautiful work! :yep:
I think my interest in ww 1 naval warfare was awakened when my grandfather gave the book "Unsere Marine im Weltkrieg"
1914-1918 as a present to me 15 years ago...I had my difficulties reading a book written in "Altdeutsch", but I was fascinated all the same...especially by the U-Boats.
(Damn, reminds me that a colleage of mine still has borrowed the book, I've gotta get it back soon and make some scans to post 'em here...)

Hehe, well sayed. They are fare not finished they will look truly outstanding when i add all the remaining ditails left to add. It took me alot of research time and luck to get them to this state.
I will show you something that will throw you overboard :D

I need a 105mm gun and at least 300 rounds for it on the U31.
Seriously, I need one.
Imagine this, me on a patrol with my lovely U 31.
The countless days in the virtual academy are behind me, into glory I sail.
(I've wrecked the U 1 a thousand times by mindless playing with all the controls during my academy days.
My speciality was the sinking of the boat by flushing the toilet in the wrong moment...)
We meet a few enemy steamers on hour way and I suck big time.
Four of our torpedoes miss their targets cause of my poor aiming...
We are forced to go down, destroyers are coming for us... They chase us. They beat the sh*t out of us.
I give the order to fire the last torpedo in the general direction of the attackers without any success (or sense).
The other remaining spare torpedo should be in tube 2, but it crashes down from overhead and smashes my left foot instead.
And in this situation our boat doesn't even have a 105mm gun, with which we could fire a few shots at the attackers before we go down in glory when they ram our boat, NO!
No, we just have two options left.
We shoot or beat each other to death out of pure frustration with the 08/15s and the two officer revolvers, so that the Brits can tow the boat to one of their bases...
Or we wait at the bottom til the oxygen runs out or we are poisened by all the strange fumes inside the boat...so that the Brits can tow the boat to one of their bases...
Really there are no other options. ;)
No way. They can't have this boat. We have to go down in glory. We need a 105mm gun. Seriously. :D
...And we need AI sailing ships in the sim...don't know why but we need 'em!
BTW... Yea, I think I like hardcore sims. And I think I'll love this one.

Will it be ok when i give you U35 with two 8,8 guns instead ?

....
Do you seriously believe you will get with this poor shooting through the academy ?

Well, historicaly U31 had no deckguns but only because it got lost so early in the war. Would it have survived than it would have been upgraded with deckguns. So will it be in IUF.
...And we need AI sailing ships in the sim...don't know why but we need 'em!
Of course there will be sailing ships.

Just want to chime in say that what you are planning really has the foundation to become an excellent simulation. I really wish more sims of this caliber were in development. good work and good luck!
Oh and excellent articles on your site, very interesting read on the design of the U1 and its flaws.

Well, kinda. As the Keel was layed the war was over. So the building never made it beyoned the beginning stage.
But well, i'm eager to simulate it for alternate history scenarios, becose it rocks the house. I will give you some more info on our dev forum.
I would really like to command one of those :yep:
Haha, me too. But beware, only aces are permited to command such a crown jewel of german ingenuity
Such an asset must be in save hands.
But it will be a thrillingly different game experiance with such a fast and heavy armed u-boat. Not even a destroyer could harm you.

Very nice work on your modeling. I found your site doing research on WWI German subs for a model project I'm planning & was impressed with the detail that I found. Keep up the good work!

That sounds interesting. What kind of project is it ? Do you want to make a real model ?

Yes, am interested in building an static diving RC model, either U-9 or U-35, in either 1/72 or 1/48 scale. Have found 1/72 vacuform kits for both boats at Combat Models, but hear that detail quality is lacking. Have not had much success in locating suitable detailed plans for either u-boat.
Would be very appreciative if anyone here can lend assistance by supplying plans or pointing me to specific source. Have already ordered Rossler's book for reference.
Thanks.

Deamon, do you still need any beta testers? I might be interested in being one. The only problem is that I'm still on a dial-up Internet connection (I live in an area where I can't get DSL or broadband, unfortunately). But I'm a SH3 & 4 player and have been playing all kinds of military sims for almost 20 years. I read everything I can find in English concerning WW1 and WW2 u-boat warfare. I'm no expert in u-boat warfare, but I'm keenly interested in u-boats and the German military of those two periods in general. I'd like to help you any way I can. Thanks.

Well, actually yes!

Are you serious ?

That's a hassle but the prototype isn't that large yet.
Hey what is your sig meaning, have you been in the navy ?

Ever played Operation Flashpoint ?

Hi, Deamon! Oh, yeah, I'm serious about testing. I'd be glad to test something as unique as a WW1 u-boat sim. I'll send you a pm today after work to discuss this some more.
I was in the US Navy for 10 years (9 of it in Italy! Tough duty, :D ). I got out of the navy as a petty officer first class. The first part of my username was my rating: OS1 = Operations Specialist First Class. We worked shipboard in CIC (the combat information center). The fotos in my sig represent my duty stations (a cruiser and staff duty for the commander of the P3-C's in the Med).
It's funny that you mentioned OFP. I never played it, but I bought Combat Ops a few weeks ago and I'm hooked! It's a great game and I think it ranks as one of the best combat sims released. Why do you ask?
Thanks!

What was your job ?

Well, Operation Flashpoint is a great inspiration for IUF in various ways. It is usefull to know it in order to better understand the ambitions of IUF. And i think although the sequel of Operation Flashpoint is there already it is still worth to try Operation Flashpoint because ArmA has unfortunately not matched all strong points of Operation Flashpoint, what made me quite disappointed about ArmA. I hope the devs will still fix that. But i would recommend to try Flashpoint Despite ArmA not only because of the features but also because of the campaign.
Operation Flashpoint was the greatest game of all times despite all flaws. You shouldn't have missed it. It's a shining example of how a game should be.

Hey, Deamon,
I sent you a few pm's and in one of them I explained my duties onboard my ship. But my rating dealt with all naval operations and tactics for the ship.
I still like ArmA: Combat Ops alot, but it does have some rough spots. But, then, it has some brilliant spots, too. I have heard the OFP was a fantastic game. I was living in Turkey when it was released and it wasn't easy to obtain games there. I was basically on a forced gaming hiatus, hehe.
