View Full Version : smoke at the horizon, but no contacts?

Several times I have identified really big convoys by detecting their smoke traces farther than the watchman can "see"........ why is that? I mean, it is obvious that I have spotted a convoy or task force, anyone would like to report it to command, and that is not possible until a ship is within the watchman range, which is 10K yards more or less. And most of the time, at that range, escorts will spot you, giving no room for you to maneuver without being spotted.

Is there any fix to that-?

Thanks! :salute:

That's hardcoded into the game. People have tried to fix it, but couldn't.

you know where they are, and that is all you need to know, estimate there range, and plot an intercept course, mark on the map where you think they are and where they are heading, hopefully you will get them..ive never rann into this problem to my knowledge...

the problem is not getting close to them, but to report contacts to command. If you want to report it, most of the time you will get spotted......

I'm more concerned about sinking .... it is rare I'll report anything unless I am playing the German side.

When your Playing as a U-boat especially with Operation Monsun and Traveller mods the Brass in the game seems to take more note of contact reports and send planes and surface ships to those areas to engage the enemy.

The Allied side just does not seem to be scripted that way.

You can increase your crew visuals to where they can see to the horizon, the downfall is you can then lock to a target and ID it when you visually have no clue what it is. Course this is TMO that auto ID's for you with a click. I guess be worth it to undo that and make you ID like in stock...

:hmmm: ... didn't know that........ I guess that will make some difference, though. Nevertheless, I was reporting contacts to get more renown.....if that happens though....
