I'm 65 yrs old and have a close tie to submarines having served aboard the USS Francis Scott Key SSBN 657 back when I had hair( way back in early 1970's ) I qualified for my dolphins on my second patrol. A few years ago I found Silent Hunter III and just loved it. Now, I have a new machine that is running SH4. So far, I'm having a blast. At my age I don't handle frustration as well as I should so I don't have any dud torpedoes. Amazingly, I will let you know that as a Torpedoman 2nd class, I did routine maintenance on the 4-Mk 14 Mod 5, 30 year old torpedoes that we carried along with our Mk 37's and Mk 45's. I look forward to meeting you and enjoying the game.

Yes, welcome to Subsim.

Play the game as you like and don't get in any hurry. There are places to go, things to see, and people to do. Err, something like that. :D

Oh and we need a sea story from you, we like sea stories. At least I do. A real no-****ter too.

There are only two types of sea vessels in the world,... Submarines, and targets. :shucks:

I knew there was a job I was forgetting. You're in charge of making torpedo juice. Just don't sample it too much.

A hearty welcome to a brother of the phin.:arrgh!:

What? No MK-48's?

So your hairline made a beeline for your behind? It's all genetic. Thank your forebears.:03:

Time to modify.

657keytm2, I'm sure you know the history of the torpedoes from 1941-45. In SH4 you can calibrate the torpedoes as you wish. It's a huge advantaged knowing the history, takes away from realism but hey it's a game, like setting the Mk 14's for contact instead of the magnetic exploded. Also setting them at least 10 feet shallower. I play with realistic torpedoes and with that knowledge get good results.

If I do get a dud I go slap the torpedo-man, heh heh! :arrgh!:
