View Full Version : How to get the top challenging career?

Hey guys.

I'm looking for a "mod soup" recommendation here.

I'm just about to finish a just TMO career. The mod is ok, but there is nothing more. I'm looking for a more challenging career. I mean, right now in TMO, I think I've just found a way of taking down enemy ships avoiding completely enemy escorts (even in calm waters) so my career at this point is only that. Go to the "assigned" patrol area (because if the action (lets say) will be at the Mariana's, command will send me to the Corean strait or East China Sea..:timeout:).

So I am looking for suggestions in how to experience a different career. Going from AI difficulty to a more logic assignment of missions.:arrgh!:

I know there are many mods like RSRD or RFP (have had experienced them just a little but no heavily modded) but what I don't really know is the best soup of mods I should have to get an optimus career.

I will appreciate any suggestion or comment.

Thanks a lot!

:salute:

I have had a lot of fun making my own missions. I use TMO and RSRD with a scattering of other technical mods. I click on a mssion or perhaps even my career, but usually ignore the assigned mission and go do my own thing.

Examples:

1. Just cruise the world. Treat it as a sailing and navigation trip. Hit the ports, manage fuel. No combat, but it is interesting. It also helps you to know the ports a bit better.

2. Get in the middle of a World War II battle. Set out to be in the right place at the right time to be in the middle of the Battle of Coral Sea or Battle of Midway, to name only two.

3. Track down a major Japanese ship. Do a bit of historical sleuthing and figure out the movements of a real ship and then go see if you can find it in the game. With RSRD, that is often possible.

4. Penetrate Japanese ports. Pick a Japanese port and see if you can get inside. First work on the easy ones, like Saipan or Guam. Then, work on Truk. Then, when you are brave enough, go through the Bungo Suido (don't get sunk by Bungo Pete) and hit the Inland Sea. Or, go into Tokyo Bay and see what ships are in there.

Those are four good options. Any other fun and challenging ideas out there?

What realism options are you using? Try maxing those out, in particular turning off the external camera and using manual targeting :yep:

Plus I think there is a Harder AI Mod for TMO. I'll have a look.

Also, have you tried this mod:Here (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/downloads.php?do=file&id=4106)

Edit: nice thread on understanding how the game AI works:Here (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=111395)

+1 for Traveller 2.6

Have a look at the patch log on the last page of the thread. Some interesting things in there.

Excellent! Didn't know about traveler mod.

Just one quick question. It was not clear for me....which mods should I have before patching traveler? TMO 2.5 and RSRD for TMO??

Thanks!

Check out the read-me for the mod. It is made to work with TMO and RSRD. So run those two together, there is a version of RSRD for TMO. Then install the Traveler Mod. The install instructions for it should be included.

For any user of the Traveler 2.6 mod....

I do not see anywhere in the command menu... the "SOS" button....nor the different search patterns stayed in the mod information. Also I'm still seeing in the damage controlled compartment the original slots available, instead of two.

Just installed it as the instructions says. Am I missing something??

:hmmm:

The two damage slots are from your two special ability men, believe you have to place them there to activate. I stayed with Travs 2.2 mods with my own tweaks, so can't answer the rest, those came after.

It doesn't sound like you installed it right, or you arent using the correct version. (2.6 final)

Is my (abridged) mod list.

Check your mod folders. Every *modname* folder, when opened, should have a data folder inside it. Sometimes when you open *modname* folder, it has submods.

There are extra mods in the sub folders for Traveller that you can find other items in and version 2.6 has the sos.

The sos can only be used on the surface and if your not playing with manual targeting ... while that is why your bored.
