Hello guys! Been a long time player since the SH3 days of 2004 (2005?)

Anyway, love the series, bought SH4 launch day, but just recently rediscovered it with all the mods.

I am using:

TMO 2.5
Improved Stock Environment V3
RSRDC_v18_v500
RSRDC_V5xx_Patch1

So here's the deal.

After installing and playing TMO for the first time, I was really taken aback by how aggressive and TOUGH the enemy AI was. I had to rethink my strategy completely from vanilla SH4, as if they even got a whiff of me, they just pursued like there was no tomorrow.

I then downloaded RSRDC, for a more realistic, better fleshed out campaign. While I love the campaign changes I've noticed a disturbing trend.

After attacking an enemy convoy or task force, if running silent, at 1/3rd power, after the torpedoes impact the targets and its clear there's a sub in the area, the escorts barely do ANYTHNG. If there are 3 destroyers, one might lazily meander at about 8-12 kts, one maybe a little slower, and sometimes one will just SIT THERE entirely. 00 kts.
This of course makes evasion child's play. I dive to 400 and slink away, without the slightest fear of a destroyer even catching wind of me.

Has anyone else experienced this? If it helps, I'm playing on "NORMAL" difficulty. Should I up the difficulty? I did NOT notice this with just TMO at all, but now with RSRDC and patches, its been an issue on 3 separate encounters.

(PS Encounters are happening in a Balao in late 1943)

Cliffs Notes/TL:DR

--Escorts super aggressive and accurate in TMO 2.5
--Install RSRDC (w/patches)
--Escorts now are lazy...often barely attempt to find me, sometimes just sit there literally not moving.
--Is this a RSRDC issue? Patch? Or maybe just my "Normal" difficulty?

Thanks guys!!:arrgh!:

Did you download the TMO compatible version of RSRD?

Well in RSRDC escorts are somewhat ineffective until very late in 43 and into 1944, only get tougher from there.TMO escorts are always tough, RSRD varies but won't always be like that.Nothing wrong with game, it's just the mod. However, when 44 rolls around, they are using TMO AI and can be quite tough, don't underestimate them, esp once get into mid to late 44 and into 45, when they are just deadly in most cases, esp since in RSRD if you are where traffic is, you will be in pretty shallow waters and must be careful.

I think you have the wrong version of RSRDC installed;

For TMO you need version

RSRDC_TMO_V502 - link here:

This is the correct version for TMO:

TMO
RSRDC_TMO_v501

I don't know anything about RSRDC_v18_v500, if that is what you are using.

It's normal for escorts to stop and just listen at times. They really can't hear much of they're churning to and fro all the time. They can't be very aggressive if they don't know where you are.

Welcome aboard Sulaco! :salute:
Always glad to get some new members here.
Now get in the bilge and scrape out the crud. But please, leave us Ubirats alone.

And by the way, I can't help you with your problem. I haven't noticed it except in stock.

Yep, install right version of RSRD. 502 and patch....As Bubble said, with RSRD the AI improves more mid war.

Thanks for the replies, guys!!

I thought my RSRDC was up to date, I guess not. I just downloaded the latest version, hopefully that solves it.

P.S. General question, but what does the campaign DIFFICULTY setting control? Not the individual realism settings in the office/desk area, but the actual "Easy, Normal, Hard, Expert, Realistic" settings on the main menu? I'm thinking about cranking it up a bit, but stock TMO's escorts were super tough already.

Those settings won't affect the AI at all. Just preset difficulty settings and they are for single missions only not career. All career settings are done in the office and do the same things.

Welcome to the boat mate. :salute:

Good luck and good hunting.
