I am patrolling off the West coast of Ireland, and I encounter Irish fishing trawlers, they are indicated on my chart as enemy vessels.
Given Irish neutrality during WW2 should I be sinking them?
Is there any evidence of U boats attacking Irish vessels during the war? :hmmm:

Op. Monsun does not have any neutrals implemented. Everything is either friend of foe. From what I understand, this is because the system with which SH4 deals with neutral nations was somehow broken.

In other words, it is up to you, the captain, to decided if a target is valid or not. :ping:

As far as attacking irish shipping is concerned, I'm sure it must have happened. What with unrestricted submarine warfare and all. Especially after 1940.

Download and install via jsgme Csengoi's Enemies of Germany mod.
After that you will have an extra chart (F1) with list of all enemy countries and dates of join to war against Germany.

I know roughly who was at war with Germany and at what time, at least for the major nations. I won't attack a neutral in OM unless they fire first and violate neutrality, as happened with a Swedish merchant takes shots at my Admiral Scheer in the north sea.

I wish they would penalize you for sinking ships carrying supplies to the German Allies. I have sank several merchant ship and then noticed there were Japanese tanks aboard. There is no penalty for that.

When it comes to shipping you can sink anything you wish as long as it does not have a German flag. All will simply be extra tonnage for your renown.

I once came upon a German convoy. I sank a Swedish tanker while I was surfaced in the convoy. The escorts did nothing to stop me. The other Swedish ships however opened fire with deck guns. It was not pleasant LOL:har:

Several Irish ships were sunk during the war:

I do not have contacts that show as enemy or friendly on my maps ... like in real life you have to chose what your going to do by sight.

I wasnt aware that this was an option in OM.
But in any case, dont you find that often you might spend hours tracking and intercepting a convoy only to find that its a friendly?.....that must have been a huge waste of time and resources during the war. :hmmm:

Op. .... From what I understand, this is because the system with which SH4 deals with neutral nations was somehow broken. .

I believe the reason is that SH4 informs you differently if a new contact is an enemy (the "Engage Target - Maintain Current Orders - Dive" dialogue), so you instantly know what you're dealing with. Lurker's solution was to make everything an enemy, so you'd have to close and ID the flag.

I once chased a fast tanker for 2 hours in real time, only to discover it was an American in 1940!

...as happened with a Swedish merchant takes shots at my Admiral Scheer in the north sea. Only the sons of vikings would think of taking on the Scheer from a merchie.
