Since RSRD portrays actual events where can I go, on the net, to get the events, dates and times that took place? Would like to be where the action is instead of ramming fishing boats (which I have to admit is a great stress reliever). I'm glad I outfitted the sub with the new indestruct -o- props.

Here is a good place http://www.worldwar-2.net/ Click on the tab timelines then select the Pacific for the year you want to know about. It is broken down by year, month, and day.

I have often got a lot of information from Wiki including maps etc by searching on a particular battle as well.:D

Now that you mention it... I think it would be a good idea, if the developers of RSRD, who claims to put an emphatis on historical correctness, would also provide us with a list of historical dates and coordinates.

The "developers" would be one man, lurker_hlb3, and he hasn't posted in these forums in more than a year, or in the RSRD thread in more than two years. Don't expect much action there.

:rotfl2:(Love the analogy) You are right to some extent - it does give a pretty good overview for quick reference however - some articles are certainly more accurate than others.

For example I didn't know until recently (one of the US Generals was in Australia and gave a news conference) that Australia had troops on the ground at Guadalcanal. I checked the Wiki page and there it was.:salute:

Let's see a convoy leaves point A, travels 800nm's to point B, resulting in 1000's of dates and coordinates, you really expect him to list them all. However, if you will look in the RSRD support folder, he does list his references for convoys. Not to mention, you can always open the ME and get all the info you want. The goal was historical, not to give so much info that the game has no randomness at all.

May as well re-use this thread as I have another RSRDC question:

How much does RSRDC affect the 'difficulty' of Merchies & Warships? I ask as I'm using TMO and came across a TF with a Carrier or two - nailed one Carrier (just), had em pop a few shots at the 'scope as I tried to bring the bow tubes to bear.

After that I Flank-speeded down to about 450ft, went silent & changed course, then braced for a hammering. In TMO I'd be lucky to get away at all, but I've run the interception twice now (handy save) and they've not dropped a depth charge once on either occasion. They ping a little, zoom around above for maybe five-ten minutes, and then head off again!

Now I know RSRDC reduces TMO difficulty a little, and I know Jap ASW was bad until late-war, but this is late '43... Is this the norm for RSRDC? I don't see warships often and this is my first 'whole of war' career in RSRDC, so I'm more used to TMO difficulty. Any thoughts chaps? :hmmm:

RSRD overwrites the crew ratings because it is a totally new campaign. TMO uses more veteran crew ratings than RSRD. You can go into RSRD campaign files and use notepad to edit them, easy, just time consuming.

There is also a mod called "TMO visuals for RSRD" that adjust the escorts sensors back to TMO settings.

You will run into more vet status escorts 43 and 44.

Yeah, I was just surprised by how much difference there is in difficulty, and started wondering if I hadn't made a mess of the mod setup or something - slinking so easily away from a full Mid-'43 task force with a good five or six Destroyers in tow seems far too easy.

I'll have a look at that TMO visuals mod, cheers for that. It may be that I can manually set a middle ground between the two. :up:

EDIT: Seems I won't, as I can't find it in the Subsim downloads section, or by Googling. :( Anyone have a link?

Something you might try as an experiment would be to install only the campaign files from RSRD, and leave out the others.

That's a thought, though it might be better to reverse the idea and simply remove or alter the files that affect the ship difficulty.

Unfortunately I don't know which files are which, for either method! If someone can tell me, I'll have a go. :salute:

Well, you can either make the changes inside RSRD or make a copy of RSRD and rename it and make your own mod and install over it.

Anyway, find your RSRD folder, open campaigns/campaign. You'll see all the yearly group folders like 41a.....,

Right click on the folder and open it with notepad. It should make sense, but each group contains many ships in which you'll see settings for each ship, like below. Just change the crew rating for as many ships as you want. You could adjust 1000's of ships. Most of the merchants/capital are set to competent. Adjust as you please. It's fun to up the rating for ship, they repair faster, evade better, etc...Set several to elite for some real fun.

1=poor
2=novice
3=competent
4=veteran
5=elite
-----------------------------
[RndGroup 1.RndUnit 1]
Class=CAFurutaka
Type=7
Origin=Japan
Side=0
CargoExt=-1
CargoInt=-1
CfgDate=19411201
No=1
Escort=false
SpawnProbability=100
CrewRating=3------------------change this

Don't forget to save when you exit the folder. Be careful if you start editing other issues, some things you need to stay away from, don't mess with group properties for TF, battles, etc....except crew ratings. Too long to explain, but lurker hand edited any file that had to be timed properly to arrive at historial dates, etc....long as you stick to crew ratings and cargo, you'll be fine with any group.

Oh, don't forget to disable RSRD and make your changes, then reactivate it so they work or just make your own mod.

That's perfect, thanks Armistead. Looking through, there's a lot of ships to alter... will be taking my time on this one! :salute:

Yea, it can take a long time depending on how many. I've long edited mine, but I did it in phases.
