I'm near the end of the war and have been given the option to use MK 16's now. I have a ton of renown points so I bought a few to try out. At 13,700 yards you could almost fire one when leaving port and hit something close to japan. Just wondering how many of you use these?

I'm running RSRDC with TMO and need one more good convoy to fire them at. The date is Jan 24 1945. So far I only fired one at a merchant at about 7000 yards and got a solid hit.

When I loaded up with Mark 16s on the cruise before I ended up bustin' rocks at Leavenworth for awhile, I had a whole load of defective torpedoes. They were no help at all and I picked up Mark 14s on my return to port. Those sank the USS Essex just fine....

As a practical matter, torpedo range is completely useless. Your best plan is to cut that distance down to 500 yards and let fly. At that range you could spit to the target and long range torpedoes are just a waste of fuel. The longer the range you fire from the more misses you will have. It's just a fact of life and we deal with it by getting in close enough to hear 'em belch.

Though not used in war, they're fun to use, you can sink a Yamato with 6. I like them for those calm clear nights in shallow water doing surface attacks by radar, never see the target, and have shot from 11000 yards and ran, by the time they hit, i'm miles away, escorts have no clue...I haven't had failures with them that I recall.

If you buy them, refit before you dock and you can get another load at no cost.

With RSRD hunt near the Korea Straits in 45, where the last good convoys come through, stay a lil south of the strait.

So I must have just had bad luck then? Sorta figures.... It got much worse. You have no idea how tempted I was to just load back up and not tell anybody. I was a couple of months from surviving the whole war....

But when I get there again I'll check out the Mark 16s!

Thanks Armistead, I'll check that area out. I think the Yamato gets sunk somewhere around there in March 45. So far I've only seen single ships, some sampans and sub chasers near some of the ports. Also a lot of radar equipped aircraft.
