View Full Version : A question about AI stupidity

To all.
I was coming in to the Java base after a two part patrol that took away the base at Manila. As usual I was live docking, (I like to do this part as it's fun) anyway, I wish I could have gotten screen shots of this next fiasco. Before you go into the docking area there is a narrow strait that runs into the java sea, the harbor is on one side of this narrow strait. There was a PT boat going back and forth from one side of the strait to the other, reversing, going forward and acting erratically. I slowed to 1/3 and waited till the PT cleared and proceeded and da%n if he didn't reverse back in front of me again. After taking whatever evasive I could I still struck a glancing blow to the PT which proceeded to Blow up at my aft as I cleared it.:haha:
My question is; Is the AI in the game programed to respond to your boat's maneuvers ect, or are they just stupid and blind???!! AND does TMO and other Mods address this? I've seen other quirky things going on before especially with PT boats blowing up for no reason and stuff like that.
It was humerous but stupid. Reloaded going in to port and finished patrol w' no accidents
Thanks

Good question, I was thinking the 'friendly' ships in SH4, especially Escorts, observed the right of way rules. It could be my imagination however it seems like if I have the right of way they slow down and let me pass. I've never collided but I could just be lucky.

Happy Hunting!

If you really want to laugh your arse off. Sneak into an enemy harbor sometime and, if you see an enemy PT Boat docked, set your torp for 3' depth and "Contact Influence". Then, prepare yourself for one of the most hilarious aerial displays you've ever witnessed. I'm talking some serious altitude here so, be fully prepared to take any SS. Darn near pi$$ed my pants and laughed myself to tears.:har:

I have never had any problems with friendly ships, but others have mentioned colliding when using high TC. Given what has been said about UBI cutting corners in this game, I wouldn't presume too much. I myself, was wondering about friendly aircraft; do they always ignore you, make a "run" at you, or do they look you over? It seems the modeling is pretty simple in this reguard.

Mods correct this somewhat. I think some of it may be based on the crew ratings, ect.

Playing TMO RSRD the only time I've ran into a ship is the one patrolling Brisbane. That one sucker will not move, so be careful going in using TC.
It's rare, but it's ruined a few good patrols for me.

I can't remember stock, but with mods like TMO, I will get a radar contact, but not a visual contact if they come in range. Only enemy planes will you get a visual sighting. Friendly planes won't attack you.
