Patrol report #3
Departed Wilhemshaven on January 24th for patrolling assigned Grid BE xx. Great weather, calm seas, no fog, no wind for the duration of the entire month of February.
On January 28 in AN 16 sunk 2 ships:
SS Cecil (Large Cargo), 9748 tons. Cargo: Steel. Crew: 37. Crew lost: 28
SS Thistleglen (Granville-type Freighter), 4750 tons. Cargo: Copper Ore. Crew: 57. Crew lost: 10
On January 31st in AM 52, we spotted a convoy, dove and attacked:
SS Accordance (Coastal Freighter), 1870 tons. Cargo: Coal. Crew: 21. Crew lost: 15.
Got depth charged for 2 hours. Evaded and surfaced but lost track of convoy.
On February 2d sunk to ships in BE 56 and BE55:
SS Cerinthus (Intermediate Tanker), 3490 tons. Cargo: Gasoline. Crew: 25. Crew lost: 9
MV San Alberto (Modern Tanker), 11655 tons. Cargo: Gasoline. Crew: 63. Crew lost: 8
Ran out of torpedoes and decided to refuel, rearm at the Tholia in Cadix. This done, I decided to raid convoy in route through Gilbraltar.
February 11th in CG95:
SS Lifland (Passenger/Cargo), 2566 tons. Cargo: Passengers. Crew: 29. Crew lost: 5.
On February 13th ran accross a small convoy protected only by a destroyer. Dove and Attacked:
SS Agua (Coastal Freighter), 1870 tons. Cargo: Copper Ore. Crew: 24. Crew lost: 15
Got depth charged for one hour. Surfaced under the cover of darkness and made full speed to intercept convoy now without its escort:
torpedoed and shelled two additional ships:
SS Reliant (Large Merchant), 10635 tons. Cargo: Steel. Crew: 85. Crew lost: 85
SS City of Canterbury (Large Merchant), 10634 tons. Cargo: Coffee. Crew: 90. Crew lost: 7
In same area sunk additional steamer:
SS Chippewa (Tramp Steamer), 1628 tons. Cargo: Grain. Crew: 27. Crew lost: 6
2 torpedoes left, going back to Cadix to rearm.
Left Cadix on the 14th of February, decided to start the trip back to Wilhemshaven.
In CG82, sighted an unescorted french convoy, used combination of torps and shells:
