U-BOAT SINKS!
Oct, 24, 1939
British radio announced the sinking of a U-boat
north of the Orkney's.
Four members of the crew were rescued by the
H.M.S. Nestor.
"They appeared to be quite put out and we
happened upon them by
chance. Our watches spotted them floating
with only their flotation vests for support."
Reported Ensign G Dudley of the Nestor.
"They were part of the watch crew. One other
watch crewman was
strapped to the U-boat, and it drug him under
with all other
crewmembers forthwith after striking a mine."
"I gather it happened rather quickly."
The captured crew members have been processed
as P.O.W. and have been given full support of
the Red Cross...
