Please tell us when you´ll be on holiday.
Perhaps we need to put the current campaign on hold ´till after everyone is back.
Please let me know you view about this issue.

I think it could be that holidays could mean that some have more time to play the game, others are enjoying RL with no pc's at hand.
Let's just send a PM when you are away for holidays.

To thin the herd even more, I will be un available till probably the first week of August. Moving day is rapidly approaching and we've still got so much stuff to pack yet, not sure when we'll have internet access at the new place, so can not give a deffinate time frame of return.

Do we have any guidelines on how to coordinate patrol dates? :hmmm:
Dragunov
07-24-2010, 08:51 PM
The general thought is that we start around september ´39.
Each patrol will be 2 to 3 months in "game time" and will take 2-3 weeks in real time depending on how fast every one will complete their mission and RL events, such as holiday season, etc
(If someone finishes his mission quickly he can preform two missions)
Orders will be issued with a "flexible" starting date.
example;
"You can set sail whenever your boat is ready, but no later than 31 august 1941"
Or something along this line.
In between each patrol we need approx. one week to issue new orders, award medals (virtual) etc.
The prerequisite for the medals will be on-line soon on the website.
This wiil be something like;
50.000 BRT sunk or a successful patrol (ship(s) sunk) you´ll receive the Iron cross second class.
100.000 BRT sunk or 5 successful patrols you´ll receive the Iron cross first class, etc
This time needed depends of course on how much participants we´ve got.
Generally this is how we planned to do this.
(I would like to postpone the contest until Laufen is back from holiday and we can discuss some additional rules for this. So that it is fair for everyone)
If anyone has a different (or better) idea please let me know.
Also, please think with us on how the game settings should be.
So what the minimal difficulty settings should be for every participant.
All ideas are welcome. I´ll start a separate post for this.

Sorry for my prolonged absence, but my PC had died on me.
I ordered a new one (laptop) and it arrived just a few days ago and I am busy getting everything installed.
Please bear with me for a few days, and I´ll suggest that everyone who is on patrol 1 returns to port a.s.a.p. so we can start with patrol 2.
Please pm me you total tonnage for patrol 1 and your current status.
Thanks again for your patience.

27.Sept.2010 report. UPDATED 28.Sept
Flotilla roster now includes 7 U-boats.
All OKTOBERFEST boats have put to sea.
U-33 is located AL038 and has sunk 2 ships for 10,000 tons on 25 Oct.
U-99 has cleared the Kanal, otw to AM45 on 22 Sept.
U-102 is last known at AN6261 on 12 Oct.
Weather conditions for the OKTOBERFEST boats have been less than ideal
with a very large low pressure area dominating. Sea conditions have not
been favorable for attacks. Several dud and or premature exploding G7e
torpedoes have been reported.
U-69 has departed Kiel by way of the kanal.
Other boats that have put to sea have not yet reported in. Another call for
position reports will be sent out. There is no reason to believe of any losses
as of yet. At least one U-boat is temporarily grounded due to medical problems.
New test system of messaging is starting to work well, now with both a
confidential way to receive and send enigma messages combined with a
decoded message section that will allow participants to get caught up
easily if behind.
Weather tests may have created a monster. Hopefully conditions will improve.
If not, the SH3weather will not be used in the next patrol period.
Enigma Flotilla and all it's U-boats are based at Kiel. The Flotilla will transfer to
Wilhelmshaven as a new homing bast in the next patrol period (Flotilla will be in
Wilhelmshaven for Christmas, but depart from Kiel 01 Dec.). Flotilla will transfer
to Brest when the time is proper.
RTB time for OKTOBERFEST boats has been extended to use of November as
needed. All U-boats will be at December, 1939 in the next patrol period.
A new codebook is needed very soon.

All active U-boats at sea should update their info through the following link:
http://web.me.com/kkentopanga/Subsim_Enigma_Flotilla/U-Boot_Tracking_Room.html
This is a very cool item that BdU came up with and it works very well. It is intuative
with a little practice. It is very easy to keep a small log here.
Maps will cover the current patrol period. You can have a route and points of interest.
Keep one mark for current U-boat position.
Thank you,

Total tonnage for the Flotilla as of mid-October is at:
125,157 total tons (1 warship).
No losses to report.
Overview of next patrol period: Will form active boats
into two or more groups that saturate a convoy route
of the Western approaches. All will play as normal
patrol in hopes of seeing more encounters with convoys.

I see, thanks much. It makes keeping track of things much easier. Note the other icons used to denote points of interest. Place a convoy icon when you spot the convoy.
When patrol is complete, leave points of interest, keep the current position icon and delete the old route.
Very easy to keep a log on your sub icon with info not covered in status reports.

Efforts to use actual WWII KTB's to choose patrol grids can lead to some to some uneventful patrols (as poor Herr Wittig found out). Best hopes for exciting patrols against convoys occur now in three places, therefore patrols can seem the same as previous ones.
Efforts will be for all to take part in convoy confrontations on patrols. I am considering skipping some time to get closer to having bases in France.
Exact time period date is not finalized, but I am expecting mid-May 1940, so patrols may end at bases in France in June. We can start getting some better hardware and enter the next phase of the war. We will still have this last Happy Times patrol for the new Captain's that have arrived.
