Getting Started with SH5 Multiplayer Mode

Network Settings (Host/Player):

PORTS TO ADD TO ROUTER SETTINGS (CLIENT/HOST)

Port# Protocol
80 Both (TCP + UDP)
3074 Both
3075-3174 UDP
19000-19002 Both

If after opening these ports you still have problems try disabling UPnP and/or your DMZ.


Things to be aware of during game:

-If host/player hits SHIFT-F11, this will bring up a new program screen on your desktop for sequence capture mode and crash the game and/or server. This key is often hit when taking screen shots, screen shot is CTRL F11 and currently cannot be mapped else where.
-If host/player hits windows start during play, this will crash the game and or/server.
-If host/player ALT-TABS out or CTRL-ALT-DEL, the game will crash and/or server.
-If player does not have custom map, player will disconnect while loading the game.
-Be aware of the multiplayer window, if you binded your key to show the MP score, be aware that if you bring up that screen and hit escape you will quit the game, host or player.


Advanced Hosting Tips:

1) The Host "should/must" disable windows key, if you're the host or other player for that matter , accidentally hitting the windows key, or alt-tabbing out of the game will end or crash the mission. It will not continue if host hits start button or alt-tabs. Here is a link to disable the key, and yes you will have to enter this in manually. The copy and paste feature in the default reg-editor does not work. Use notepad and count out the letters and numbers there. Do it if your the host! No matter how good your hand-eye coordination is!

2) Host should run a dual or quad core set up with at least 2 gigs (should be 4gigs). It's not the ability for the PC to run the game that counts, it's the ability of the PC to run stable while running the game, especially if you're the host.

3) Host should have a stable and fast connection 10-30mb (pretty obvious but hey, should be mentioned).

I think a lot of crashes in game are because of the above mentioned problems which are hard to notice, and with the windows key probably too embarrassing to admit ;)


Gameplay Settings (Host/Player/Community)

If your the type of Captain that enjoys a challenge but your mate in Vietnam likes to play on easy with his elite point and click accuracy, don't worry because there is a way for you to play using your own preferred settings.

Now some would say that this is a kind of cheat and that it beats the purpose of the normal multiplayer game settings and anyone can play on any setting during any game. Yes that part is true. But in my experience, and for me personally I like challenge and so do others. I like getting a MP game going but I hate people crying about playing on hard or very hard. Now I personally could care less how you play how many ships you sink and what setting you play on. I like a challenge so this is how I set up my game settings:

First go to this folder C:\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5\data\Cfg

and find the GameplaySettings.cfg

Inside this cfg you will find the settings for "normal". I use normal because most people online are happy with this setting.

My normal game settings are as such:

I don't ever like map contact updates on nor do I like auto targeting enabled.

Now, whenever I play MP and the server loads up NORMAL settings, I will play using the settings I provided above.

This method can also be used in SP if you don't like going back to the port to change realism levels. To do that edit the GamePlaySettings.cfg in your My Documents/SH5 folder.

Thats a UBI server problem, if you wait or restart the game it should work.

i have waited about 3 min and still nothing. and when u say restart the game waht do u mean because i have exited the game lots of times and it is still greyed out

You need to forward the ports in your firewall or your router.

Its not the kind of game you will see people playing. You need to have friends playing and organize a game. What you see in the list is the game lobbies, so any players playing the game at the time, you will not see.

Yes it certainly is.

You will see the lobbies pop up now and again, but the game leaves the Ubi screen when the game launches, so any game in progress you will not see.

I just got SH5, and on the back of the case it says "unlimited installs". So, I have it on my pc and a friends pc. The only way to get it to install on the second pc was to use the same account info, because if you don't it says "cd key already in use" and won't complete the install. Anyway, trying to set up a MP game, and if I start a game he can see it on his end but it won't let him join and it just says 1/2 players. Just wondering if its because it see us both as the same player since were both under the same user name? And I guess I'll need to buy a second game to get another cd key number? Guess the "unlimited installs" is a little misleading.

Any help would be appreciated!!!

Same player. Unlimited installs means you, as the owner, can install it as much as you like for your personal use. That is not misleading at all. The CD key pertains to you and only you...the person who paid for it. :03:

Hey ddrgn.... yesterday i playied few MP... so cool:rock:... a lot of diference from playing single.... and some funny storyies:

I was playing with 5 guys from all around the France... one of them he had a very strange tactics... we were near a big convoy well protected... he was near me... started his engines at full power and the DDs were alerted... he left the area and in first match i spend half time to try to escape from the DDs that he allerted near me:shifty:

We started the second match... same mission... we had the same position... he repeated the trick... i was ordered back full... and i went to -100 metters... after a while he surfaced his uboat trying to sneak and to make a surface attack... i putted 3 torps on him... he sunk... he asked... who the f.... shooted on me... i replyied... man... what were you doing?... you crosed my fire line... i lost 3 torpedos on you:D... next matches he tryied to stay far away from my position:haha:.... very very cool to play MP sh5... :yep:

EDIT: i noticed that a uboat is well protected against torps... i had the impresion that only 1 torpedo is enough... but only 3 torpedoes did the complete job... the first 2 made just damages

I've opened the ports listed and my upnp is disables, but I'm still not able to join a game, when I can see a room open, the option "join" is greyed out, is there anything else that I can try?

hi, that's the hosts problem, they have not opened the ports etc, sounds like your configured to host, try running your own lobby and see if others can join

Ummm, I played SH4 mp for years and have no idea about that setting you speak of....... Multimissions can be 1 min or last forever, up to the mission maker.....

been in a few all night missions, and awsome fun, the most fun one so far was where all contact had to be done by morsecode, what a painz in the butzz....

Using a com program, having trustet players = hours and hours of fun. we are trying to set up a mission that will run for 2 days, if it works, we cramp it even more up....

Im trying set up where some friends and i can play Muilt-player. I have all the ports open and still they are not able to join. They see 999

Here is the router setting.

Router port forward range for the WRT54GSV4

Start and end 80 / protocol both
Start 3074 to 3074 / protocol both
Start 3075 to 3174 / protocol UDP
start 19000 to 19002 / protocol both

I have the ip address set to the IP of the PC thats going to host the game and have it ticked enable. THis is the PC that I will play on also.



I also have disabled windows firewall, still no luck. I'm i missing something?

ive had the same exact issues as BlackBass and Steve027. ive forwarded all ports, tried with upnp both on and off, tried with dmz both on and off, and i still show up as 999 to my friends. 6 of us recently bought it on steam and were hoping for some multiplayer action. but just cant seem to get the ubi.com server going. we tried through tunngle, but, for some reason, it doesnt like more than 2 players and boots everyone except host and 1 player.

ive spent 2 days looking through forums now and have found no answers yet. anytime i see someone with a connection question, all i see in response is "i play multiplayer all the time," but no clues or answers as to how they achieve this. very frustrating :damn:

so... has anyone out there had same issues, and found a solution? my 5 pals and i would be very grateful :yeah:

It may Inconvienence (sp) someone in the house for a short time, but you could by-pass your router by taking the Cat-5 lead from the modem and go straight to the computer to rule out the router being your issue.

You are now part of a wolfpack of 2 - 8 players, with ships on the horizon
and a tonnage that you have to sink, to complete the game.

All the time avoiding escorts. Which isnt really that difficult....But nice
to be playing with like-minded Captains.

Am currently on Mplayer (UBI) but havent seen anione yet tonight, which
is surprising. Havent even seen any friendly green lights on UPLay Chat.

I appreciate its a while back, but couldn't find ani other posts saying u had actually mp'd online.

I am up from 2000- 2359 uk time, most nights and definitely Sat and Sun. On ubi's uplay.

if u add me to your uplay contacts "popflynn" not (popflynn1), I will add u to mine shortly, and keep an eye out for you.

Uplay contacts let you know when your 'friends', are online (which is quite helpful), as previously u had no idea who was in lobby waiting for a game.
